The first order of business is to remove the armrest. The procedure is in the service manual in the general info thread, you first pop out the window switches with a flat blade screwdriver and a cloth to prevent damage to the plastic. You then undo the phillips screw in the pocket part (it should have a round cap over it if it hasn't fallen off yet) and use the flat blade along the edge of the armrest with a cloth. I don't have the cloth in the pictures cause I didn't think to take pictures until after I removed it.

I then peeled back the rubber/vinyl and found my suspicions were confirmed.

The next step is to remove the vinyl covering. Just peel back along the edges of where the vinyl ends starting with the edge that comes in contact with the door card. You will then see how the vinyl is attached through the plastic. You may need a knife to cut these parts on the outside edge of the armrest. You only need to remove the portion behind the pocket to add the foam.

now that the covering has been peeled back you can add the foam. place it on the armrest and cut it to size. Then put the vinyl back on. This part may be tricky due to the added thickness of the foam, you may have to stretch the vinyl a bit to get it back on.

I attached the side that goes against the door card with some quick drying super glue, the other side I just pressed in since there was so much more material on that side but you may want to glue that too. Now that you've done that simply reinstall the components in the reverse order of installation. I haven't done the passenger side yet but it should be the same procedure. This will only work on the front because the rear doors are solid plastic.

Enjoy your actual soft touch armrest. After you do this sit on both the driver and passenger side to compare the difference. Well worth the 15 minutes of time and material already lying around the house!
Note: Do this at your own risk, it's not my fault if you break anything!
