ok, so i recently bought an '89 coupe with active speakers and no radio installed. i have already removed the front speakers w/amps to fit some 6.5 components. i have also removed the rear speakers... but i dont see the amp for them. ive read that they are supposed to be under the rear deck, in between the rear speakers, but i dont see them. could they be anywhere else ?... or could they have even been removed before i got the car, im confused

p.s. i already put this in the audio forum... and i didnt get anything. since this forum has more traffic im hoping at least someone will reply...

I don't think there are factory amps for the s13 coupe. I think that's for the s14's and up.

If there are tho, I'd just trace that wire and see where it leads.

I stripped out my 89 coupe the other day (completely - interior and all - I was doing an interior swap) with another 89 coupe and found absolutely no factory amp of any kind.

The only place I could even imagine that they may be hidden would be inside the chassis (behind the rear lower plastic panel - with armrest area) - there is a lil hole there and some space - didn't look in, so it may be hidden there if at all.

hope that helps

I dont think there is anything except for the circuitry (active speaker crossover) that is behind your front speakers in the door. Take that active crap and rip out the circuit board inside it and throw it away. Keep the can though.

Quote »I don't think there are factory amps for the s13 coupe.
im pretty sure there is... especially in the front. theres a circuit thing... and theres a few threads explaining how to bypass the front factory amps. and 'active speakers' hints towards factory amps...

Quote »If there are tho, I'd just trace that wire and see where it leads.
i just unplugged the speakers... the two wires kinda dissappear into the metal parts of the body

just as a side note from what I know with looking at studio equipment there are active moniters and passive moniters. passive moniters are unpowerded and require an external amp while active moniters are self powerd and require no external amp. I havent read anything about nissan audio and dont even have a 240 yet myself but if there is some random talk of how to bypass the old system and talk of active speakers I would guess that the speakers themself have some type of amplification so there would be no amp for you to find. this would go along with having to remove the stock circutry to avoid sending an amplified signal(from any amp you moight install to active speakers(they would just amplify the amplifyed signal and blow stuff up). sorry for the lack of specific information and I hope this is applicable to the 240. some one lemme me know if I was at least almost right :)
