car: '95 240sx

problem: left front rattle, can be felt in steering, happens when i hit bumps especially around turns, kinda feels like the wheel is going to fall off

thought it was the tension rods, replaced them with new adjustables with pillow ball mounts... resulted in no change

tie rod ends appear to be in good shape

what else should i look for?

Get the front of the car off the ground. Grasp front and rear of tire and shake side to side. If it has play, its the tie rods. Then, grasp top and bottom. If you feel movement there, its probably the ball joints.

Yes, its normal. Next time you do it, make sure the column is locked so that it doesn't move as much.

Maybe your front shocks have some kind of lateral shaft play , which is usually death for shocks..

If its a wheel bearing, it will have the same amount of play in all directions. And, you won't see movement anywhere else. However, a wheel bearing will typically give you an audible noise before it develops free play.

yeah he said it was ratteling but usually is more of a humming noise...if u hear a loud humming comming from ur front wheel that ur having problems with its most likely wheel bearings.

yeah i havent heard any humming noises but i also havent had the car that long... i still have to lock the wheel and check for play these 12hr shifts dont leave much time to fix the 40

any chance its a blown out shock?

well i think its the tie rod when the tires are on the ground i push on the left side one with my foot and there is some play on the left but not the right.... so this means its the tie rod?
