Alright, so Ive got a confession.

Last weekend, I attended a sprintcar race. $15/ticket, two tickets.

and I liked it.

I know Im new here, and that talking about how much I enjoyed an oval track race isnt going to win me many fans... but hear me out.

The racing was AMAZING. so close. The sprintcars were sliding as close as any D1 driver Ive ever seen, lots of bumping and spins. these guys have BALLS. Those little sprintcars cant weigh very much at all, and with big V8's out front pushing somewhere between 500-600 hp... theyre QUICK.

You do have to put up with alot of trucks in the parking lot, and a lot of ignorant people around, but its worth it. Best night of racing Ive been to in a long time.

there were three classes out. Pony stocks (small 4-cylinder almost-stock road cars. look alot like demo derby cars, but theyre small and light. mostly pintos! but I did see one or two mustangs, and a classic celica that was tearing it up) modifieds (ex-road cars that look nothing like their former selves. Very sideways and running on what smelled like Alchohol) and the fastest cars, the sprints. the class that was running that weekend didnt have wings, and so they werent as fast around the corners, but they were a LOT more sideways, with some of the drivers almost sliding backwards going into the first corner.

ITs a lot of fun if you can get past the left-turn only deal. Loud as hell, too.

Has anyone out there ever tried this, or considered trying it? If nothing else, its fun to laugh at the mullets--> :ylsuper:

sprint cars rock! it's by far the best kind of circle track racing to watch!

NASCAR is usually just too damn boring...

I remember reading something about Midget cars and how the guys say they're the scariest cars to race by far

like 300 horsepower in a 900 pound car or so...

THAT WAS EITHER JUNIOR SPRINTS OR STRIGHAT SUPER MODIFIEDS. THE SUPER SPRINTS ARE THE ONES WITH THE LARGE SLIDING ROOF WINGS AND FRONT WINGS. THESE SUPER SPRINTS HAVE WELL OVER 600HP. THERE WAS ONE THAT HAD 1400HP IN A 1450LB CAR BUT THEY OUTLAWED THOSE CARS AND NOW THEY HAVE ANYWHERE FROM 500 TO 900HP. THEY RUN ON NITROMETHANOL OR ALCOHOL INJECTED SUPERLEADED.

MY UNCLE USED TO RACE SUPER MODIFIEDS IN HAWAII AND LET ME TELL YOU THAT 450HP IN A 1400LB CHASSIS IS FAST AND YOU RUN MOST THE TRACK SIDEWAYS.

Oval track racing is awesome.

Anyone ever been to talledega for a NASCAR race? Absolutely breathtaking. By the end of the race you are literally wiping rubber off of your clothes and face. The sound does not stop ringing in your head till the next day. It is awesome.

I think it's like overgrown go-carts on a muddied-up round track or something. They pretty much powerslide the whole time. Freaking crazy to watch.

Im right by the Pacific view mall, bout 6 miles from the beach. My girl and I were just driving around by the raceway park and we saw the sign. We'd been meaning to go, so we just went.

Ive been getting her into road racing and drifting, and her dad used to race some kind of stock cars in the mud.

this is seriously the only kind of Oval-track racing to watch for me. Cant stand Nascar.

The sprints were VRA sprints, I think.

Lol... we were walking up the bleachers and the first 10 rows or so were jsut COVERED in mud particles from practice. Reminded me of D1, coming home with rubber in my nose, in my arm hair, in my mouth, in my clothes. It was great! :D

Thats cool racing, I've been considering guying an old junker car, fixing it up, and racing it. Plenty of dirt tracks in my area (south louisiana :D )

Sprints are awesome. I'm about an hour away from Eldora raceway. They should be there in a couple of weeks. I will probably head up there.

I saw a sprint race in Bristal Tn last year. They put a ton of dirt on the nascar track, they were actually running faster average speeds than the nascars do there.

i saw a sprint car race last weekend, off the hook. it was kinda funny to see em drive off the track at the end cuz their left tire is smaller than the right so it naturally pulls to the left and the guys were swervin a lil bit from time to time. definitely a great nite of racing, even the hot laps were pretty koul to watch, plus it was the 1st time i had ever been out to a dirt track race.

Here in central Indiana, sprint car racing is huge. I swear during the summer months there are 20 races a week at about a dozen tracks. A friend of mine races sprint cars in a sub-division of USAC. It's pretty cool racing.

i think theres one here in texas in ennis or something. freakin' badass stuff. they had something about this on speed or learning channel or disc. channel. some guy with a flat track car using some badass custom made 800hp engine that revved up to 7000rpms or something like that. i think that would be fun as hell to do, only with a less powerful car...
