OK so I decided to ship my car from N.J. to Texas using tripleA autocarriers door to door delivery. They quoted me with $585 door to door delivery and guaranteed 3-5 day delivery. Let me tell you guys my experience so far ITS A f***ING NIGHTMARE, they picked up my roadster on May 4th in New Jersey, it is now May 12th and and still no car delivery. I called them last friday and they said they broke down at Mississippi, so I gave them a 2 day buffer to get fix and then make the delivery by sunday. Sunday comes and no delivery, so I give them another day which would make it monday. Still no car delivery, so i give them another call, and the bastards are broke down again 2 hours away from me. Its now exaclty 8 days and they havent made delivery yet. The driver said he wont guarantee his truck will be running for another 3 days and I am not about to wait for another 3 days. Im contemplating weather I should go pick it up myself and not even pay full price on the delivery. What do you guys think??

I have no idea how these things work, did you already pay or do you pay when you take delivery?

Dont cause a rukus till you get your car. I'm sure they will work out a reasonable price with you.

Yeah. You could wait for it or get yourself, either way your not paying a cent if they had a guarantee. My guess would be those little crooks did some joy riding and probably busted something and are getting it fixed right now so they can avoid a lawsuit. Hope you recorded your mileage before you left!!

I know how frustrating it can be. Special ordering parts from local speed shops can be just as frustrating. But, another way to think about it is that, you now have bargaining power.

I've been around the hotel/restaurant industry as far as I can remember. One thing I know is that, when you're in the service industry, whether it's food/lodging or automotive, management will almost always (or should) bend over backwards to ensure the customers satisfaction. This means that if I as an establishment, screw up, I should try to make it up to you or at least meet half way.

A reputable company like AAA should act upon your complaint because they should be worried that you might report them to the BBB (haha just realized how funny that sounded...but seriously, BBB=Better Business Bureau). The BBB has the power to make or break a business, that's why companies, especially ones that are registered under the BBB, make an effort to avoid circumstances like this.

Good Luck! Sorry for the novel.

Your car is probably in some Tenesse body shop having some good ol boys bondo up the mangled sheetmetal after your car fell off the trailer.

OK So I finally decided to pick up the car today, I live in Killeen, Texas which is slightly about 1 hr away from Austin, the truck broke down in Houston, about a 3 hr drive. Before I left I called their dispatch office and talked to one of their supervisors. I explained the situation and asked for a discount. He said he cant do anything about it because a truck breaking down is out of his control. Well I told him that since the truck broke down 2 times and missed the guaranteed delivery date by 4 days then he should atleast give me some compensation or discount or something. Sadly he refuses to give me any discount. So now I tell him Im going to go pick up the car by myself and drive 160 miles down and another 160 miles up for a total of 320 miles. On top of that I had to get a rental car which cost me $90 and another $90 for a round trip gas fill up. I asked him if he will atleast compensate me for that, and the bastard still said no. So now im getting really pissed off, So I told him "you mean to tell me I have to go pick up my own car 160 miles away and provide my own transportation to get there?" then I also asked how much the delivery payment was going to be and the bastard said "you stay full payment" So now Im really pissed off, I asked him again "You mean to tell me I have to pay full delivery payment when the car did not arrive on my front door on the guaranteed delivery date which the driver missed by 4 days?" And again the f***er said YES. So I just grabbed all the document agreements before I loaded the car into their truck, I drove down to Houston. But before I got to Houston, I stopped at a local police station and asked for some assistance due to my situation. One of the police was good enough to come along. So I get to where the truck is parked and told the driver I was there to pick up my car. I inspected the car thoroughly for 30 minutes, everything was the same inside and out when it was shipped on the 4th, except its dirty a** hell. So the driver hands me the key, I turn on the car and checked the mileage everything was the same. The car was left untouched. So now heres the fun part. The driver asked me to sign a delivery paper work saying I picked up the car and I inspected it. I signed the paper work and just walked away. Now he asks for the delivery payment which was $485 and I said "NO I'm not paying, Here read your contract agreement, it says guaranteed delivery date" then the driver started to get pissed off saying he didnt drive thousands of miles and not get paid. I also told him I drove 160 miles and provided my own transportation and money out of my own pocket so I can pick up my car when it clearly says "guaranteed delivery date door to door" I told him "This is not door to door delivery and its 4 days late, I am not paying a damn thing" So I get into my car and start it. Now this bastard gets a crowbar, and heres where my cop friend comes out. Cop comes out and stops him from doing anything stupid, the cop read the contract agreement and shared the same point of view as me. Before we even headed off to pick up my truck, we called the BBB and filed a report. So now the truck driver is really pissed the f*** off, he calls his boss and tells his boss to talk to the cop. Cop talks to the boss and tells him about the situation and the report made on them from the BBB, also the attempted assault that his truck driver was about to do. So now the boss wants to talk to me. He said just take the car, no payments, and tell the truck driver to compensate you for gas money and car rental money, we dont want any trouble. SO I get my car plus $180 compensation money. I tried giving the cop $100 for helping but he declined. He even escorted me out of houston to make sure im not going to be followed. Soon as we were out of houston he passes me by and gives me a thumbs up. I think this is a good win for me.

One of the best "consumer win" stories I've read in a long time. Congrats!

More money for tires & gas!

Glad things worked out. Just imagine if you didn't have the cop there?

Do you think the truck driver was going to come after you or the car and what would you have done to stop him?

Questions to you (OP) - Did you check out TripleA hauling before choosing them? Did you call around to other car haulers and get estimates? I'm guessing that TripleA was the cheaper of the bunch.

It also sounded like TripleA used a contract driver using his own truck which tells me that TripleA should be more picky when choosing their contract help.

Next time, spring for a covered car transport, unless the distance is less than 400 miles.

What would I have done if he attacked my car and what would I do to stop him?? All I got to say is GOT TO LOVE TEXAS LAWS. One such law I like is called KING OF THE CASTLE google it and read it. Basically what it says in short is If I feel threatened within my property I.E. house and car, I have the right to defend my self using deadly force. Meaning I could kill you on the spot as long as I have a reason to believe you are indangering my life and the only way to stop you is to kill you. And at that time when I picked up the car I have a concelead weapons license with me and my handgun (another texas law that I personally love). Who would win hmmmmm crowbar??? hmmmmm 9mm?? I am also currently in the U.S. Army stationed in Texas, Ive been in service for 8 yrs 5 of those yrs served in the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan. I am a 19 Delta Cavalry Scout, I am also an Airborne Ranger. With all my military training, I highly doubt I will miss a 5'2'' 125lbs truck driver standing 12 feet away from me. That is why I brought my best friend Popo to take care of the problem, and mr popo did his job very well and saved me from a lot of court fees and court time. I hope that answers your question. SECOND I did my research on all of the car shipping companies and all of them gave me the basic quote ranging from $800 to $1100. There is a deposit fee of $175 to guarantee a spot on the truck. I choose triple AAA because they are my insurance company and they were giving me a $200 discount. My quoted price was $885 after the $200 discount. All in all I learned one lesson TRIPLE AAA sucks balls thats why next month I am switching insurance companies.

I use BMTrucking.net I once had a driver from BMTrucking wait a whole 4 hours for me to fix a problem with the auction service because they wouldn't release the vehicle to him. He came from Texas to CA in roughly 2 and a half days.

I work in transportation and there are so many shady trucking companies out there it's not even funny. Typically you get what you pay for. Doesn't surprise me one bit the dispatcher wasn't going to give you a discount when you talked to him on the phone. Awesome ending. Glad you didn't get the shaft.

If you are in the military why not use USAA? It is the best insurance company I've ever dealt with and is very very competitive price-wise. Plus, you being military means you're able to use their banking services as well.

Check them out, http://www.usaa.com

I've used them for the bast 10 years (father was in the USAF) and I have no complaints what-so-ever, they've been great.
