A bad new owner can destroy any car as so many of these are bring sold to people who have never had an Infiniti/performance Nissan!

From other forums, they are already whinning about Infiniti's recommended 3,750 mile 90 day oil changes and brake pad/rotor/tire wear........they are modifyig air intakes and exhausts and changing electrical system. Most of all they complain about Infiniti services costs.....wear and tear items.

When these 100,000 Z/G35/G35c come off lease or hit the used market be very very careful as the performace enhancing changes will add stress to all the components compared to Maxima of yore!

What are you doing in Cambodia Sope? It's really hot there and they have weird bugs.

I'll be moving there on the 21st of this month. I've quit work, school, sold all my cars and other valuable possessions and unfortunately, had to break up with my girlfriend...

Humanitarian services beckon so I'm signed on to provide translation services for Adopt-A-Minefield but from the looks of it, I'll have to put my game face on for a jack-of-all-trades role because so many other skills are required.

However, that's just an advocation and not a full-time occupation. Ever since the beginning of the year, I've ran my own environmental tour service and man has it been a blessing. Not only has the income allowed me to quit working part-time while attending college full-time, but I've made enough money to buy the things I'd only dreamed of. I mean heck, at one point this year I had five cars, in addition to the 240 and my Q, I had two "Lexi" and a truck- all before I reached the legal drinking age. This business has impacted me in ways I'd never imagined and moreso than the generous living it has provided, it's been immensely, spiritually fulfilling.

Thus I'm going from one extreme to the other. From a life of affluence to a much more minimalist, modest living. So far, I've found my twenty years empty and now I have a reason worth living and a cause worth dying for.

Road noise: Shoot, it's already August. Summer's almost over. (Or if you're Down Under, Winter.) Wherever you are, get out and have fun before it's too late. It's the damn weekend, after all. Here it's a travel day. We're driving up to Linux World Expo in San Francisco in my wife's new old car. It's a well-maintained '95 Infiniti Q45 with 77k miles, to replace her well-maintained '92 Q45a with 210k miles. Her old one died of its suffix. The "a" stood for Active Suspension, which Steve Parker explains here, in a review where he pans the 1997 model, the first Q45 where the "a" isn't an option. The Active Suspension was a brilliant innovation. Developed for Formula One racecars, it suspends the car on four electronically controlled "actuators" instead of the usual springs and shock absorbers. When you turn hard, the body doesn't lean; and when you hit the brakes, the nose doesn'ts dive. Bumps leave no memory in the springs, because the system soaks bumps up and forgets they happened. It was a magnificent design, a true innovatoin, and a big selling point that failed to sell because it also added $5000 to the sticker price of the car, and most drivers failed to notice the difference in ordinary conditions. (One review of a basic Q in 1990 noted that the car could "outmaneuver a Miata." So it wasn't like handling was a problem without the fancy suspension. When we bought the '92 new, we managed to get an "a" for the price of the base model. This seemed like a bargain at the time, even though we knew the fluid-driven active suspension system sapped a bit of engine energy (as does, say, air conditioning) and lowered gas mileage a bit. (The mother would get to 60mph in 6.7 seconds and had a governor that held top speed to "just" 150mph.) Then we discovered, when the actuators wore out at 110k miles, that they each cost more than $1200. Just for parts. Finally, at 210k miles, something went wrong with the fluid drive for the suspension system, which is deeply involved with the engine, at about the same time as the actuators surely needed replacing again. Things went so wrong, in fact, that the Active Suspension system killed the engine completely: it siezed up. So we sold the car to a guy who loves old Infinitis for about the price of one actuator. A shame because we loved that car. The 1990-1993 Q45 was an amazing machine, designed originally by Nissan's new Infiniti division as a "Japanese BMW." And indeed it was. But it was also cursed by the worst marketing ever devoted to a $billion new car division launch. TV ads featured video of water running over rocks or something — and nothing about the car. As a result, Toyota's new luxury division, Lexus, kicked Infiniti's ***. So, starting in '94, Infiniti started to "Lex up" the Q45. They softened the suspension and gave it slower steering, to emulate Lexus' driving-your-living-room feel. They also "de-contented" some of its parts, to save money. "De-contenting" was an automotive industry trend back in those days. We can see it in a few little things, such as the loss of AM stereo in the Infiniti's car radio. Which really sucks. The older Infinitis had one of the best-sounding AM stereo systems on the road (and yes, some AM stations still broadcast in stereo). The newer stereo also looks like an aftermarket add-in, probably because it's the same one that went in the cheaper '95 Nissan Maxima. Still, the car was a bargain, since Infinitis hold their resale value about as well as a used lollypop. My wife picked this one up pretty cheap, considering. Lex'd up or not, it's still a very fine car. I, of course, am still driving the beat-up old Subaru wagon.

As for your declaration that Infiniti is too expensive to maintain, may I suggest a G20?

longrunQ, I hear your pain. I went from several Honda's to teh Q, and will never go back, if I can afford not to. I like the Honda, but RWD is in my blood.

Be careful with the Honda. IMO, they are no better than Nissan, and most of the used cars are selling for WAY too much. Depending on where you are shopping, Nissam Maxima sells for the same price as a comparably equippend Accord, and is a lot more car. Parts aren't too bad, and you can stay on NICO!

Didn't talk to you much, (if at all), but hate to see a member leave.

PS, Mazda parts are more than Infiniti, so don't go for that cheap RX7 or 626.

See ya!

The reason I posted Doc's Blog is that he has a documented readership of over 60,000 different computers per month.Significant to say the least. That's more than the total number of 90-95 Q sold in US. These are real rich guys for the most part.

He is a legend in Technorati and the Internet and publishes the Linux Journal.

Just to prove we all aren't nut cases for liking Q.

I'm in process of converting him [via Inet he lives in California] to Tokico Blues, Stillen rotors, a rear sway bar and a JWT ecu.We will supply an older radio that he can swap in his 95Q so he can get his AM stereo back.

I am not letting a chance go by to spread the WORD and the word is Q..........not the Startreck Q.

Well then the Q is BETTER........

Really, IMO the top 3 cars in the 90-95 era are the Q, LS400, and the BMW 750...... I personally dont like the "driving in your living room" feel the LS gives, the BMW isnt on the road too often due to things breaking.... So the Q gives the best balance between driveability, and reliability...... On top of that, high depreciation rates mean we <as enthusiasts> can get them dirt cheap with low miles!!!!

Glad to hear that you approve of them! I have a set on the way from Joe. Looks like a great deal at $83.75 each (average) compared to the going rate for PowerStop at $100+! Stillen sells them for much more, but Joe as always is looking out for us with group buy pricing...

The group buy idea was five sets, but he went ahead and ordered the five and then put the other four sets in inventory, so they're ready to ship on demand.

Basically it's a personalized tour service. Tell us what you want to see and to and we'll try to make it happen.

You'll be travelling in a small group that will include other tourists, your tour guide, a cook and a two guards dressed in plain clothes (just in case things get hairy).

If anyone's interested, there is a NICO discount. :D

IMO used hondas cost way too much, they are no more reliable than a nissan or toyota of the same price, u want a cheaper 4cyl car with a lil bit of niceness, get an altima, they're cheaper and just as reliable as the accords, and cost les
