If that story was true the criminal would get rich, all the marines and police would lose their positions/be brought up on charges... Lawyers would be lined up to represent that guy and it would take nothing to prove to a judge that those are not injuries sustained from a fall, and the the police had falsified a report...

I can tell you having been a Marine and still having the pleasure to work with them as a civilian, had the first part of the story actually happened, the second part would have too.

According to Snopes, the first part DID happen. Duggan clotheslined the thief. The part where he got the crap kicked out of him was made up.

Very sad event, it should'nt happen.

The fake second part of the news seem to be the wishes of its author in reference to the stabber.

By the way, this is a common scenario with news broadcasters on TV...instead of reporting the news alone, sometimes they add their own opinions...
