IMHO Humiliation/ridicule only works with a very specific type of kid. I don't think this kid is that type. Look at the expression on his face. That looks more like anger than remorse. I don't see his mom helping the situation at all, and I picture him leaving home at the earliest opportunity and not looking back.

Sure if he moped around with the sign it may be embarassing... but knowing how smart kids are...
If he just "owned" the sign and wore it like "f*** yeah I steal and sell drugs" it wouldn't be good for much more then a laugh and to ad some "cred" to the kid.

I don't know if she's always been a good parent, but the fact that she's trying to do something to save her son, makes me want to congratulate her. If only all the bad parents would take initiative and stop being failures.

I don't know about y'all but I got my azs beat with what ever my mom could pick up and or throw but that's ol skool. but I like to punish my kids by allmost the same way but my signs say's damaged goods free
