From my experience when I purchased my Rogue in the spring (from a Nissan dealer Hwy 401 area) Had agreed on the price and the salesman presented the bill of sale to be signed when I noticed a charge of $349. and he said that was for vehicle etching (theft protection). I said I don't want it or need it, and he said I had to get it. I said I don't have to get anything and I was going to walk away, then he backed off.If you read any auto publication or consumer report they don't recommend it. Just pure profit for the dealer. When we leased my wife's Toyota it was not even mentionedHappy with my Rogue so far.

I was 'tricked' into buying this protection on my Toyota a few years ago. The sales guy presented the same argument but you are correct, we can waive this protection BUT fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) my Toyota was stolen and this particular warranty paid out $2,500 towards the purchase of my new Toyota.

Like all warranties or insurance, these companies deal with statistics. In my case I came out on top ...
