Hey whats up fellas??? Well I just recently bought "within the last three weeks" an OBX short shifter off ebay. And right now you need to listen to me like a red-headed step child needs to listen to his step dad!!!!. .. . don't buy these pieces of f##cking sh$t!!!! It totally ruined my night at the track tonight. I could not get one good run out of six becuase of the shifter. The shifter likes to twist around inside the little adapter kit they give. Hope you all take my advice and save your money and piece of mind.:angryfire

I've got mine, and have had NO trouble out of it. You install it right?

Pretty sure, the damn allen key screws would keep getting loose after a day or two, and I would have to tighten them almost every day. I didn't even really get on her bad that much except for a couple of times. The whole shifter would spin around backwards. . .. that thing was messed up. Do you have any pics of how yours is installed. . . seems like there is only one way to install it to me.

Well, thats lucky for you my friend. I tell you what, I have had the worst luck with mine. Tonight after I got back from the track, I came straight home, cut down my old shifter and re-installed it. I feel like after cutting it down a lil it is pretty close to the OBX. But I could just be imaging things tonight with the night I've had. Running at the track was just embarassing tonight with all the problems I had.

hmmm the only problem I've ever heard of the OBX shifter was that since it had a 2 piece construction it would snap under excessive heavy shifting (which we all do). However you could easily fix it, and the new ones have been redesigned and fixed anyway so that shouldn't matter. I dunno maybe you just have a defective one??

Thats wierd, becuase I just bought it but it was a 2 piece. The bottom part of the shifter screwed into the top piece "which contained the large cylinder and part for shift knob. That piece would unscrew every now and then two. I guess I just had a defective one too. Just my freakin luck, lol. I wrote OBX becuase it says its backed by a million mile warranty "yeah right I bet, lol". Who knows what they will say. Worth a shot I guess.

Yeah, I have had my OBX for about 4 months now and I have never experienced any problems with it. Even when I was autocrossing and shifting hard.

I've had my obx shifter for over a year now and have no problems at all. It will spin around if i make it, but it won't do it easily. Make sure you greased up the ball on the end of it, and put some red or blue threadlocker on the screws. Red if you don't mind destorying it to get it off, blue if you want to take it off later.

I mean it will jump out of the transmission and do a dance for you, then want 250 dollars. So in essense the obx shifter really isn't cheaper because you constantly have to keep paying it 250 dollars. wtf do you think I mean. It will actually spin around, or turn, if I hold onto it and twist my wrist. :yesnod

ahh, the joys of an automatic. there are very very few joys of an automatic, but this is one of them. we dont have to worry about our shifters being pieces of crap or not. yay. oh yea, and we don't have synchros to go out either. yay. i want a 5speed :9

Old thread i know. long forgotten but i had to reply. I HATE automatics. I absolutely loath them. I'll never buy another automatic again after my 4x4 truck and 90 hatch(was gonna do engine swap anyway so it didn't matter)

Autos are for old people and kids learning how to drive during their driving tests. :D

whats the cheapest place to find an obx? the cheapest place to find a b&m? are either of these a substantial difference resulting in easier, more comfortable, and thereby faster driving? i've never short shifted. always kept the stock shifter in all my cars.

Jeez, I can't beleive this thread is still around. I started this thread up a long time ago, heck, I still had my old username then, before it locked up on me (240_s14).

I still haven't had a problem with my OBX now, it just took a lot of lock tight....

Hostilities like this are of no use to the regular people that frequent this board. If you're not going to act respectful, why bring down the rest of us?
