Anyone else notice that the dome light is always on even after turning off the car, doors closed and all? Its not "fully" on, only very dim. I never noticed it until after I swapped it with an LED.

Mine did it as well as the lights in the bottom of the doors. They do however go out after the car has been turned off for a while. I fixed the problem by jumping the light with a resister before the led to add a bit more draw on the circuit and it fixed the problem.

lol mine do the same / that and the dome map

it does not draw many mili amps, but all those LEDs could be the reason why I had the car boosted 4 times in 5 months of ownership

To my knowledge the same amount of electricity was running to the stock bulbs there just wasnt enough of it to light them up. And since LEDs need so little energy for them to light up the residual energy is enough to light them dimmly. As far as i know you don't HAVE to add a resistor as it isn't enough energy to kill your battery and since the power was flowing the same as it was before.

Yea; I didn't have to add the resisters. I only did it because it annoyed the hell out of me, plus anyone in the backseat always asked why they were still on. If it doesn't bother you don't worry about it.

Here is a link that explains what type of LED's you need that will trun completely off. It's 4 posts down by Blackmobile. Good info that I will consider.

Adding a resistor will not stop the power draw, but it will stop the led from getting the required current to be visible

when i posted that my smt led's did turn off when the light was off. or so I thought.. turns out the leds i had at the time were just so dim (and blue) that i wasn't able to tell that they were still on a little. now i've got the 16xsmt white led which stays on like everyone elses.

How do you install the resistors to get the lights to completely shut off? My dome and map lights give off a dim light. I find it annoying - and people asking about it is even more annoying. I've been searching for an answer like crazy but no luck... I just keep coming across threads that say "install resistors" but none of them mention how. Thanks for any help!

****EDIT*****

I know we aren't supposed to link to competing forums, but what about non-competing forums? ....

After a lot of searching I found a solution for resistors on the 3175 dome light bulb here :

http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.p ... -Installed!

And for the 194 map lights here:

http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-guid ... rs-237103/

Any foreseeable problems with doing this? And they reccomend two different types of resistors (1watt, 100ohm and 1/8watt, 1kohm). Are these specific to the vehicle or the light bulbs? Do I use those resistors or do I need something different?
