Some of you may remember Dollyman from the VW/Audi forums a few years ago.
http://www.offroaders.com/news/Dolly-Ma ... ed-APS.htm
Long story short, the HOA booted his car wrongfully, he just removed the boots and told them to come get them, they sued, things snowballed.
Here's the conclusion!

Why am I posting this? Well, I got a notification from my HOA that I left my garbage can outside too long (evidently 26 hours after trash pickup is unacceptable).

Wow I missed out on the whole dolly man saga until I read your post. It's funny to see how it was played by the Audi owner and great that he never backed down. Shirts have even been inspired from it! The story of the conduct of the HOA only solidifies my impression of them. HOA's are good things in some ways (snow removal, lawn service) but can be restrictive in what you do on your own property.

In your case the trash receptacle seems a little extreme. People are busy and depending on your day, wheeling the trash can back may have been the least of your priorities

Conclusion HOA =Image

I dont think I could ever buy a home with an HOA. Ive had a couple of obnoxious folks in the neighorhood over the years, but never had a situation that could not be resolved amicably.

Tis was a great story, but the Audi guy sealed his own fate by not hiring a lawyer.

I dunno, I mean, he won... and didn't have to pay a lawyer. Sounds like he came out on top, it just took way longer than it should have.

My neighbors have had trash out next to their mailbox since Sunday morning. They don't have a note on their door. Think I'll take a picture and tell the HOA (but not where it is) and just say that I guess people around me don't mind, and they need to back down.
