I'm patching up my rust bucket to paint and I have to repair a corroded section in the trunk.

It corroded from being just above the muffler, I guess the moisture and super cold winters here just rusted it to all hell. Anyways I found right around where its rusted out, a type of vent of some sort.

What the heck is that for, and can I remove it??

thanks,

lbrowne

I know there were vents underneath the sound deadening in my focus I have no clue what they were for but like I said, they were UNDER the sound deadening, I'm pretty sure they perform no function outside of production

well when i go to repair the corroded area I was going to remove this vent altogether and fiberglass it over. and yes it was under the trunk lining etc.

Its to keep the air pressure the same so you dont blow out W/E when you open the trunk.

air preasure is difent in a closed area then outside the containre(this case your trunk) when you close your trunk you cause a vacum. when you open it, the preasure is realsed and if you have any light material (ie paper, cloths etc) they get sucked out witht the air
