Ive always heard that its not really necessary for tune-ups as you wont see a difference, but for 40 bucks why not get a new one with the plugs, wires, cap and rotor?

Someone in the 240 FAQ recamended the Crane PS91 performance coilhttp://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/coils.htm

and found a topic useing search recamending MSD Blaster 2 zerothread?id=192554

How are they installed, are they mostly plug and play?

what do you guys think, anybody else have either?

Not plug and play. More like cut, splice, mount, hook up and play.

With a stock ignition, you more than likely wont see any difference whatsoever with a performance coil. Now if you upgraded your ignition as well (MSD 6 series, Jacobs, whatever), now you would need a more powerful coil as well.

It's not so much Im looking for a performance coil, just a new coil to match the rest of the new parts... How much are the stock ones?

cuting and spliceing wires are my kind of thing...Maybe I should do a write up on how to install one...

yeah that would help some dumbasses out. I have used msd blaster ss on my wifes old honda, it idled way smoother and was at like 570rpm after install. Gas mileage went up too but her 66 year old dad was driving it also. But with a 1.5 mileage is all you want. I have used a blaster coil on my totaled ss s-10 slight better acceleration. WTF was gas mileage in that beast. But when the 6a was added it gained about 10 butt dyno style. If only replacing to replace then get a stock unit they are pretty good. But then again like you say 45$ vs 57$. I'd get the performance one for 12 dollars cheaper. And it might even get you better mileage, which makes it even cheaper.

btw I have had a 6a just go dead out of the blue one day, so if you ever get one make sure its the vibration resistant one,b/c thats the only thing I could come up with it just quiting.
