not sure if royal purple makes atf (I don't own any automatic's so it's not somehting I pay attention to) a full synthetic oil which is intended to reduce friction, an automatic transmission relies on friction and hydraulic pressure to work, so I doubt there is any atf that will reduce internal friction, I knwo B&M trick shift on older non computer controled transmissions firmed up shifts, to firm up shifts on the Z33 you need a computer

I don't believe Royal Purple makes a Matic J transmission fluid, so I wouldn't risk it. Your vehicle does not take regular ATF fluid (aka Dexron).

I've got no ideas about ATF either. Check out the products from Redline. I've used it for my gearbox & diff in my S13 and always been happy with the results.

well i dont know about atf but i know that if you add grounding wires your car will shift smoother and throtle response will be improved

I wouldn't worry about the transmission fluid anyway, your car is pretty new man. I wouldn;t upgrade until its time to change.... wasting money IMO

FWIW i use Mobil 1 and works just fine. I don't see the point in paying an extra $2/qt for the purple stuff. Mine performs the same as it would with Royal Purple... Its just a name... Now high power, purely race car then we need specifics but not this..... IMO

+1 - you don't need to change the transmission fluid - it won't do anything for your car...

...and you aren't going to feel the difference in a production car with using mobil 1 vs RP - you aren't constantly running the car at high RPMs like on the track, and for the times you do rev the car up, mobil 1 is more than capable to feed the need...

So if you're doing the best for your car, why don't you buy new tires?

Seriously, you're not going to feel a difference and there will be no difference (except for a lighter wallet) between M1 and RP for the way you drive.

I used to run royal purple in my cars, but you can get full synthetic mobil 1 in 5 quart jugs at walmart for half the cost, so I swithced

the 2 basic types of atf (at least at last I checked) was type F and dextron/merrcron, but the B&M for instance si a bit thicker which is why it firms up shifts, I'm sure there are some other finite differences as well

I dont know why everyone is hating. If you want to change your transmission oil by all means go right ahead. I track my car so I change it every 10K miles. On my first change I used the royal purple and it was great. You wont notice a difference until you really heat up ur transmission, thats where regular oils will give up and shifting could be a problem. Royal Purple is really good under these conditions. For my 2nd transmission oil change i used Motul, it is even better but really expensive $15 a quart, but i would say its worth it. I am assuming you have a manual transmission so I hope you got the royal purple 75W-90 gear oil. Have fun changing ur oil its a little annoying pump oil into ur transmission sideways.

I have Motul in my transmission... An owner at one of the shops insisted and he gave me a good deal on it. The shifting seems a little notchy but once the car warms up its not a problem. Do you have the same problem?

We're talking about automatic here, guys.

As far as Nissan is concerned, let me loosely quote the owners manual and service manual: "Matic J is the only approved fluid for use in your automatic transmission. Use of any other fluid voids any and all warranties."

Matic J now supersedes to Matic S, so one of those two fluids must be used. Any other fluid voids the warranty, and Nissan will require fluid samples if there is any question.

Well there you go Richie... ^^^

I understand you wanting the best for your car, but you seriously should think it over, as i am only trying to save you some $ and still ensure you will have more than what you need out there. Mobil 1 full syn can be had at walmart for about $25 in a 5 quart jug (which is where i get it too evildky). Just my .02 man...

So, He can't afford to buy replacement tires for his car, yet he's willing to waste money on automatic transmission fluid that he not only doesn't need to replace yet, but will probably void his warranty? Does anyone else think there's something wrong here?

No, I'd say things were pretty normal.

don't forget the crushable washer that you are supposed to change every oil change, it's less than a dollar.

You don't have to take off the plastic skid. You just have to unbolt it in 1 or 2 places so that corner can hang while you take off the filter.

If you stay around long enough, you'll get to know/understand "Richie" and why his threads almost always take this kind of turn.

As someone else mentioned, I think you need to spend some cash on new rear tires.
