dohc starter on sohc?

i searched didnt find anything i did find that you can use a sohc on a dohc so im assuming you can but i ijust want to clarify

I've used a 89 sohc starter on a 91 dohc. Cause it wasn't as rusted when I did my engine swap, fits like a glove and has never missed a tooth. They looked like the same one to me.
