Does the trim of the 240SX ex: XE, SE, LE, etc... donote whether or not it is DOHC or SOHC? Also how well do the KA24 engines do in terms of performance? I hear they make a decent blend of power but lack the top end. Ive done some prior searching on this board and couldn't find everything I was looking for. I'm looking for a nice 240SX 90-94 with the fastback, but I want the DOHC engine. A helping hand would be appreciated here.

89-90 = SOHC91- = DOHC

so in most cases if it's got the pignose, it's SOHC.

ka's aren't bad in terms of performance. yeah, not super great top end, but good pull from around 2.5k rpm to 5.5k

yeah that was exactly the information i was looking for. are these cars good at 100k miles? I found a local 91 240SX 5spd with 100k miles even. They're asking $2,000 for it and the description says it runs well. I'll have to fully check it out in person to get more info but that deal sounds like one worth looking at. I can show the link if interested.

when you go to check it out in person, make sure you drive it, and listen for timing chain rattle. chances are it'll be there, and be prepared to fix it.

and yes, these cars are fine at 100k. I've got 143k on my car, there are people on here over 200k

ive got a friend who daily drifts his at 210,000 miles. it mostly depends on previous owners. but by the sounds of it, it seems like a good deal. but check for rust and a motor tick

I only paid 2150 for my hatchback with only 39000 miles on it.The car sounded good and every thing but the owner before me gave me a paper saying that the cluster was replaced and had about 38,000 miles on it. And about two weeks later i here me a taping noise and it sounds like a lifter tapping away and found out it had a small oil leak.

Things that I have done to it since I bought the car.oil change new spark plugscold air intake took off the speed liminter3 inch mulferstereo systemhoping to put a short shifter in to the car soon I hope but have not figure out what brand to go with.

I've got a 90' FB with 235,000 miles and it runs great. my previous car was a 97 GS eclipse w/ header, cat-back, intake, MSD ignition, and B&M short shifter and this car in its stock form is faster than my eclipse was. I should be getting boost this weekend and we'll see how much longer the engine lasts at 7lbs of boost

(thankfully I picked up a spare motor I'm in the process of rebuilding so I can afford to have this one blow although it isn't my intention)

alot of simple bolt on mods on these cars net a noticeable difference in performance as well. in example: I spent around 600$ doing exhaust work on my eclipse and noticed a MINIMAL difference in acceleration. I spent 100$ on an electric fan and thermostat, removed my belt driven fan, and I could notice a HUGE difference in power/responsiveness of the engine.
