The '91-'94 Maxima's are GREAT cars, especially with a 5spd. They are very fun, reliable, and strong. Actually, this is for any maxima. The power on the '91-'94's are I believe 175 or 180 horses. Its a great car, if taken care of. The common problems that I know of is the notorious timing chain rattle/break. Chains are strong, but if they break, the motor is normally toast.

A friend of mine has a '94 maxima 5spd with 172k miles, still running strong. Another friend has a '93 maxima 5spd, over 100k miles, running strong. Both of these motors are driven relatively hard too, and have been for a while.

they are a good motor/car. They are also pretty quick. Good for mid/high 15's if driven well wiht the 5spd

the VG30 is a really good motor. i mean, it was used in the Z, the Max, and the SOHC version in the pathy and i THINK the frontier. its very strong and will last a long time. its a good car and i would jump on it if its only $1400. as for the price, $1000 for the motor is a little high. anywho, good luck with the car, your son will enjoy it.

hes including labor in that 1000 price, which is not a bad deal at all.

Jason (its Wes)

The VG is a great motor, he'll love it.....

Depending on what you want done, i can help you out... Basically you just need to konw if the timing belt has been done, other than that its a really solid car!

VG30's have chains. At least the 4th Gen maxima's do (91-94)
