hey everyone, i just bought another 240 to replace my recently crashed 240. I'm having problems with the engine. At first the engine was acting like the maf was bad (when i revved the engine there would be a very noticeable lag and the engine wouldn't rev past about 2500 rpm - i know my timing was set at fully retarded by the previous owner but i don't think that would affect the delay in revs). i replaced the maf with my old 240's maf and it helped the problem slightly (there was no delay in the revs anymore but the timing was still messed up and now the engine was throwing a check engine code) PLUS when i floor the car's gas pedal the engine's rpms will immediately bog and if i hold it for more than a second the engine will immediately stall out. I don't really know what could be wrong? i need this car up and running before winter break ends so if you guys have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

Check out the IAA valve. If its trhe culprit, you'll want to clean all the ground wire connections for the car's ignition and injection system.

timing was way off? get the timing in using the tps method and tell me how far you had to turn the dist. it sounds like incorrect valve timing.

i don't know if it's incorrect valve timing. it seems like the ecu isn't getting correct readings and is just using some base setting so the engine will atleast run. by the way which way do you turn the distributor to advance/retard the timing? the little screw that marks the timing on the distributor is all the way to the left so i'm not sure if it's advanced or retarded...

could this be a blown head gasket? because there is a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust, there is no power, the engine is shaking more than it should...

yeah, white smoke is always a possible head gasket(or other coolant problem).

what you really need to do is check plugs and cyls for coolant, check oil and coolant for cross contamination, and do a compression test.

you do all of that and report back, then i can tell you what to do next.
