DOHC KA MAF on SR

Ok ive heard over and over you cannot use the DOHC KA MAF on an SR, that you have to use the SR or KA SOHC. Well heres the question.

If this is true then why does my buddies SR (which we installed and wired in the MAF) run perfectly fine on a DOHC KA MAF?

They're about the same size. I have a DOHC KA and I happen to have an extra SOHC MAF. I compared the two while they were out and if memory serves me right, the DOHC is 4 pin and SOHC is 3 pin. The extra pin is for ground, so you don't need it. If you wired all of them up correctly there's no reason it shouldn't run fine.

Does anyone really know the answer to this?i have 2 dohc mafs with pigtails and a sohc maf w/ no pigtail so if i could use the ka dohc maf that would be great

All we did was figure out which wire went with which and used the DOHC plug side off the KA Harness and the DOHC MAF.

Ill get a pic as soon as I can. At the moment we are moving the motor to my new car. The harness I have was out of S14 using a DOHC MAF on a S13 SR20DET.

I didnt think it would work but we wired it up and it worked fine... So Im just as confused as all of you.

what model DOHC MAF idd you put on what model SR I am extremly lost.

so I can't Use the 98 DOHC KA MAF because it has a diferent plug. what about if I solder the new plug on will it work?

Clarify for you all.Harness is the S13 SR harness modded to fit the S14 chassyMotor is a S13 RedtopMAF is a DOHC S14 MAF

I was looking at it yesterday and only 3 of the 4 prongs are used and I pulled back the wire covering to see if I could see what wires they connected to and they seem to be the same color on the harness side as they are ont he plug side... Ill do some more investigating.

Yeah, I looked at my S13 harness and at my S14 harness and the wires are-white, black and black/white. The S13 has three and so does the S14. They looked to be in the same pin location as well. Otherthan the plugs themselves being different it should work. Thanks again.

thats what I found on my harness so I figured the wires were the same. On my harness we just cut the 4th plug wire off short and tapped it up.

Yea we had the harness on a car for several months and not a single problem.
