DOHC intermitent speedo but odo works

Basically, the speed dial works only sometimes when it feels like it, it will eventually dance and do shake a bit, which doesn't often happen, but the odometer (trip indicator or however it's called) always works. So the signal from the speed sensor is good (meaning the connectors upo to the gauge and speed sensor themselves are good)... I just want to confirm that I only have to change the speed gauge, a spare from a SOHC cluster I have.
