DOHC 4.6L VS. LS1

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I don't really know that much about either.

Seems to be that ford engine & trans combo is cheaper. If you get the cobra engine it cranks out about the same HP and is still Aluminum block.

DOHC V8 might be a tight squeeze in the 240 engine bay.

Any thoughts?

LS1 FTW! if i were to do a V8 swap into anything that would be the motor i would use. Mostly cause i have seen (camaro's and T/a's) GO VERY FAST with cam and head only or stock motor with just some nitrous. But what 4.6 are you talkin about when you say cobra? like the 96-02 Cobra? or the 03-O4 S/c Cobra? personally if it was between a LS1 and a S/c Cobra motor i'd go S/c cobra.

the ford twin cam is a really wide motor, you're gonna want to take some measurements on that one, it really becomes a bowtie vs blue oval debate if it fits, there si lots of aftermarket for both engine just a matter of personal preference

The headers will be a ***** with the 4.6...not to mention the LS1 has been outpowering the 4.6 since its inception.

Look at prices to modify each motor...LS1 FTW

That would rock...I'm not really a Bow Tie guy though...the LS1 is a far better motor then the 4.6 Mod motor. If I was going ford, the the bullet 331 would be my choice, it'll fit way better because the block is ALOT narrower. Which would leave enough room for a pair of turbo headers

If I were going to install a wide motor, I'd use a big block. Like a 454 out of an old truck...

Just for cost/performance ratio i would go with the LS1 and the fact taht there area few LS1 240sx's out and about you'd have some help in case you ran into trouble. Which you must likely will.

Although, the 4.6 with a Kenne Bell blower would simply rock to have...As far as help goes, once the mounts are fabbed, you could use any Mustang forum for tech. That is after you ask us first...lol.

yeah, that motor (03-04 Cobra) or a S/C Lightning motor would be nice too, but i don't even wanna know how much those go for.

Get a all aluminum 5.4 ford GT motor. Slap on a 2.8 Kenne Bell and go kick some a$$. I'd only do that if you had a ****e load of money lol. I'd say LS1 but they sound like crap imo. They do run hard. If you had a crap load of money go LS7 and cam the sucker. You could always do a turbo 302 or 351, that'd be pretty hot.

You will be much better off going with a LS1 in the long run. Heads, cam and a good tune will put you in the 440-460hp(crank) range and do it all day long. Way more aftermarket backing, and you can pick up LS1s pretty cheap. Cant really go wrong.

Stock for stock a LS1 will own the **** out of a Ford 32V (excluding the 03-04 Cobras).

Just throw a Pro-Charger D1 on the LS1, and say hello to 500+ bpu horsepower and 30mpg mileage.

I'm new to the nissan scene, but i have always appreciated both ford and GM... both engines are nice... i'm sure gas mileage is no issue, but LS1 is way more efficient... also, the incredible torque of the LS1 takes the lead again... but if you put in the 32 valve, you would have something unique... to tell you the truth, i would yank the v8 ut of a caddy cts...(if it would fit) and drop it in... bottom line... LS1 is gonna beat the 32valve DOHC, then you can go PowerDyne... but if you want it unique, then go ford... they are both exceptional engines... and i have heard of a lot less long-term problems out of the dohc's than i have ls1's...

If I went Ford, I'd use a 347. The block is very narrow and would facilitate more header options or possibly a turbo kit. Not to mention the price for parts is very cheap for the old school fords. Similar to the iron block Chevy's.

Not all 4.6's are aluminum either. Only a select few are. I can't remember the years/models off hand. The ones in the Lincoln MK VIII were aluminum IIRC.

When swapping v8's into smaller vehicles, I would pretty much only consider 60* pushrod engines or possibly SOHC. Which kinda sux, because I'd really like to have a XLR northstar in my 240... lol

i must say since the moment i saw my s14, the only thoughts going through my head were "drop a v8 in the *****" haha

and im a ford guy myselfbut anyways thats beside the point

they are both small blocksso im pretty sure they will both fitLS1 headers from corvettes drop straight down, fords stick out moreif it came down to it get different headers

but im sorry to say the factory blue oval engines dont stand up to an LS1thats why you dont keep it factory haha

Go ford
