Ok so the other day, which was a very sad day. I was driving around town, and minding my own business when O SH*T!!!! Temp gauge was almost in the red zone, was like wtf, pulled over and shut the car off right off the bat. Coolant began to spew out of the reservoir(smokey), and then I noticed something horrible that there was a coolant line underneath the intake manifold that had cracked and was spewing coolant over the starter.... I had enough coolant with me that I poured in after a few minutes and then drove the car over to a friends where I added distilled water to fill it up and then limped it home. I know the mix isn't right with the distilled water and the 50/50 premixed stuff because there is more distilled water then the premix. So the car still overheats. And I haven't gotten around to doing a coolant flush and adding all of the 50/50 mix yet. My question is.... How bad would you have to overheat a ca to where you would need a new head gasket???? Additionally I forgot symptoms, like do you look for oil in the coolant in the radiator, or do you look for coolant in the oil in the engine? (like when I do my oil change if there is coolant/water present=new headgasket time?) Pretty horrible situation, but maybe you guys can shed some light on what I should do? Thanks additional notes... No detonation was present the engine still runs, just overheats after a bit (but right mix of coolant hasn't been added yet)should I get a new thermostat as well? After I limped it home it was about to overheat again and that distilled water mix spewed out of the reservoir again anything else I should look for?already got a new hose for under the intake manifold

Fix your leak and see how the car acts under load. If it runs rough, you may have messed-up the H/G. But I wouldn't go spastic as of yet. The CA is pretty forgiving when you overheat under little to no load.

pull dip stick if it looks like choco milk it blown hg, also u can rent dye from auto zone u pour into a sample of your coolant and itll telll u if u have exhaust fumes in coolant aka bad hg, also u might probably have a bad thermostat or water pump if u put water in and it still overheats, unless it leaked out that fast..
