Mods, should you find that this thread does not belong here, please feel free to move accordingly (i just wasn't sure which subforum this would be most effectively addressed)

This is Sentient by design's picture from his "how to" guide for grounding kits, i just needed to borrow it real quick so everyone had a reference.

ok, so i assume i should be most decriptive to get the best answers so here i go... i bought Sentient by Design's grounding kit a few weeks back and installed it, no problem... well fast forward to last night and i noticed that, in haste, i may have stripped the bolt at connection D. now, it isn't completely stripped but just the top half, making it difficult to tie down both the connection from the battery neg (Point E) as well as the one coming from Point C. there is, however, enough thread left on the bolt to tie one of them down.

now obviously this issue needed to be solved, but not being savvy in the ways of grounding, i did notice that on the inside of the metal piece that is directly left of the battery terminal (left of course when you're looking into the engine bay) there's a bolt so i went ahead and connected the neg from the battery onto this bolt... (this metal piece also comes into contact with the metal at point D. a bit confusing? i know it doesn't make sense to me either but here are a couple pics.

view from right side of car:

so hence it looks like this from the top:

so then my question would be... will it have the same effect as the original setup shown per Sentient? am i dealing with something that i might regret later on? what then, would be the most efficient way to resolve this issue? your help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Ok,

Here's a better solution.

Connect the Point C to point E IF the bolt at point C has enough thread to accomodate another terminal.

The setup you have now will still work, but kind of goes against the purpose of having the grounding kit in the first place.

I don't see where that should cause much of an issue, however, the two contacts at point D are now using the metal bolt as a means of connection instead of using the connectors from the wires. I don't think this should cause a huge problem, but I know Sentient should have the final say in this.

ok, i think there is enough thread left. and i assume the wire going from C to D should still remain, correct?

Yes. Leave the wire from C to D.

If the bolt isn't long enough, email me and I'll get you another one.

Should have been shipped today. I'll have to check with the wifey to see if she got to it.

that's because the bolt at point D is part of the metal plate. it's pretty much a stock bolt that's prefabbed into the metal plate. hence i wouldn't even know where to start on how to replace that without having to get a whole new plate. the nut is good, the bolt is half stripped.

unless you meant the bolt at point C in which case you would have a better understanding of grounding kits than i do. (but i would love to learn how this grounding kit really works technically. perhaps i should've paid attention in those previous grounding kit related forums )

and i see what you did to my thread title there...

UPDATE:i went ahead and replaced the bolt at point C as aforementioned by sentient. everything seems in order. no brown-outs, virtually no headlight flicker, and the stock Bose still sounds louder than before. perhaps all is in order then. (the throttle response sensitivity has yet to be tested... it was a bit warm in the evening and didn't think i'd get the usual pull i'd expect)

heh quick edit, thanks for the help again

Im not the educated one, sentinent is... but from what i understand, think of a beer funnel with 4 hoses rather than 1... the wider the hose the more it flows! More beer/current is dissipated by using separate points (people to drink lol)

Jungle,

Email me if you'd like more info on what's going on.

Brian,

I my wife has taken your tracking info hostage. She said she'd email it to me today, but she's with one of our friends. I think lesbo action between them is more likely than me getting your tracking.

if i may, be careful when tightening points F and D... the aluminum is majorly brittle at those points (obviously, hence the reason i stripped them and this thread was even made...) unless the coupe's, as well as the 2.5s, instructions are different... but either way, good luck with that. i think it's a great kit that works.
