The wildlife department's job is to regulate animal populations to prevent starvation and interference in congested areas.

Regulate them downward, into little sausages. Sausages are cute too.

f*** that. I'm not helpless. I'll take care of myself, thanks.

I see a lot of deer where I live. They have no business being this far down from the mountains...there's nothing for them here. There are hundreds of miles of open mountains and foothills for them to frolic stupidly through. Why the Hell do they have to be where people are? We don't like them, they're terrified of us. STAY IN THE MOUNTAINS.

Wrong.

They kick hard.

They don't kick hard unless the object of the kick is on the ground. They require the object to be at ground level to gain any force to the kick. They rear up and come down with the force of their body. They won't generate any force at all if they try to kick a human in the head or chest.

In fact, they won't even try.. they will run away.. even if they have a baby to protect, they'll run back to the fawn and try to stand guard there... or more likely, they will try to lure you away. But unless you encounter a buck, you don't have to worry about them if you are an adult human being.

Clearly she'd have preferred to be in the forest, but you know how kids are... they go wandering off, and next thing you know you're having to curbstomp a pooch and regulate on Mr. Whiskers.

+1 for the deer.
-1 for the mother deer for not setting a better example to her young. Maybe if she was little bit more responsible, and looked ahead at the possibility of someone with a camera putting her poor child care abilities on youtube, she wouldn't have freaked out and put the blame on yet another innocent, curious bystander...

no i don't really mean this, just wanted to argue with an unjustifiable point. I wouldn't have yelled and screamed and watched my old dog get stomped for one... Sledge hammer to the neck/head woulda been my route with no firearms available. Hammers should ALWAYS be nearby.

I have the solution:

Just make people by bullet proofing for their houses. Then you can shoot all the deer you want, and not worry about popping one in junior while he's sittin' in his room watching Spongebob or whatever.

I live in the boonies, have to deal with stupid deer all the time. I've hit two, but luckily neither was serious. Honestly I find that I only hit deer when I'm driving slow, lol. If I drive really fast they don't have time to run out in front of me, hahah. I guess if they are standing in the road I'm kind of screwed though.

+1 for killing deer, and Bambi is retarded.

I'm pretty sure the fawn was just born not too long ago. They gain their footing pretty quickly after birth, maybe a few hours or so, but if you notice, it was flailing a bit and even fell. Either that, or it was injured. Either way, enough for Mom Deer to go into instinct overload.

But I agree. The dog, yet again, is punished for a human's mistake. Why is your dog outside unleashed anyway? And plus, that deer was hanging out for QUITE some time before it got to the dog. Maybe if you called Star inside, he/she wouldn't have gotten curbstomped.

I too, wonder what would happen if it was another, more able, dog. Something with baiting instincts. :gotme

Am I the only one that noticed the deer was hit with a rock is why it stopped chasing the cat?

ahh the ole rope-a-dope. just wait for that deer to tire himself out, then make your move :chuckle:

but really, deer attacking my dog? i'm attacking deer. even within my yard, a deer/dog confrontation is highly possible. hell, as of last year, so is a bear/dog confrontation. that one makes me more nervous. also, i now have copperheads. yay :squint:

We've had copperheads in my hometown for years. I use to catch the babies when I was a kid. I brought one home and my grandpa flipped out on me... "Do you realize what you're holding can kill you?!"

i knew about the milk snakes and garter snakes. then my next door neighbor showed me the copperhead that he ran over with his lawnmower. i'm all paranoid when i get to the wood line now, especially near my firewood pile.

You have to really make a copperhead nervous for it to do anything. They'd rather try to get away from you than strike you.

i'm afraid of stepping on it, or inadvertently grabbing it while reaching for a log. my dog, on the other hand, just wants to beat up anything that moves. i haven't seen him messing with a snake yet, but that doesn't mean he already hasn't without me knowing, or that the meeting just hasn't occurred yet.

My advice, if you see some black snakes, leave them alone. They'll kill off some of the copperheads for you. Just pay attention and you'll be fine... I wouldn't worry too much about the dog either.

they don't bother me. i play with the baby garters and milk snakes to get them all riled up and lol as they strike at me. after a while i just release them into the bushes. i found a shed skin once, had the be about 3' long, but was missing the tail. i would have liked to see the thing that left that skin behind.

Black snakes are definitely good neighbors to have, they get rid of all kinds of troublesome critters.
