Anyone have any thoughts on this whole deal? So the guy does WWII re-enactments, and plays a Nazi, doesnt someone have to play the badguy in these things? Does that mean he IS a nazi? Im not getting the significance of this whole thing in the grand scheme of things.

Seems having a past with Byrd didn't hurt. Granted, there seems to be a difference of expectations in regards to both parties in this respect.

Ya but even so thats not a good analogy, because this guy WAS NOT an active nazi, in fact the group he was part of that does the re-enactments strictly forbids anyone from endorsing naziism. Robert "KKK" Byrd was actually an ACTIVE Klansman, big difference there. True that difference does sort of exacerbate the disparity, but still, I just dont get it.

people can be wrong. you arent the same person you were when you were 25, are you? I would HOPE that youve learned something in the interceding years. after all, im only 25, and id like to thinkthere is more for me to learn.

the key is recognizing that what you thought at the time was maybe misguided or wrong, and owning up to it. if there is one thing yo ucould call Sen Byrd, it was principled. how many politicians can you say that now?

I think the Byrd thing kind of got us off on a side trail, the point of my OP was that this guy doesnt even subscribe to naziism, only plays a role in a re-enactment a few times a year, but now as a stretch of campaign smearing, hes drug through the ringer over it? If I was a voter there, and thats the best the opposition had, it would make me take a good hard look at the guy under scrutiny and most likely label him the best choice.

and civil war re-enactors are just doing it for the love of acting.

give me a break. naziism is something you opt into. you dont suddenly wake up and find yourself to be a nazi. and alot of people have a problem with that.

I sympathize with the guy, because for a time I wanted to get into WWII reenactment (though I had no desire to put a swastika anywhere on me).

But I ultimately don't care because as electioneering gears up, I turn off of politics. I just don't care about the individual politicians, their actions or their statements. It's all a distraction, in my opinion.
