Does using an unprogramed key damage the security system

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I'm trying to trouble shoot an on-again off-again problem with an older EX. The battery is being drained by the security system and the mechanic cannot find the problem. An un- programmed key was used by mistake a few times. Could this have caused the problem? I don't have an Infinity dealer in my town and the nearest one to me has been of little help.
