I am very interested in a 2012 M Hybrid with 57,500 miles (I recently posted about Backup camera issue) that is being sold by an Auto Broker (mostly high end used cars) and I wanted to have the car looked at by my mechanic however the Broker is saying that they do not allow the cars to leave their premises due to Insurance reasons.

I am welcome to have a mechanic look at the car on the Brokers lift but I cannot find a mechanic willing to do this. I live in the Chesapeake / Virginia Beach area so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't agree with that and feel like you been a potential buyer have the right now have the car inspected by the dealer. the way I see it and this is just my personal opinion, they might be hiding something. I mean. the camera is bad so what else can be wrong with it? tell them that they are more than welcome to come with you to the dealer as you have the car inspected by a professional. doing a Post Purchase Inspection is a must if the car is been sold not by the cars manufacture

Never heard of a dealer not allowing a potential customer to take there car on test drives and no mechanic ppi. Sounds like they may be a bit shady.

Look and you will find others, take your time don't rush info buying until you feel 100% good on the deal.

Good luck.

my friend i just went to auto trader site looked up 2012 and 2013 m35h they are mostly 10g higher than your 16900 car .
Why do you think that is? Maybe dealer doesn't have a computer or he don't have a black book?
i am only 64 years old but i think i know whats going on. please stay away from this deal

So you can't even test drive? Forget that! Who is it? I'm in Va Beach and there are too many shady places here with the military. Best bet is to find something out of the area. Even reputable places just charge too much.

Thanks to all for your sound advice. The 'to good to be true" phrase has been ringing loudly in my head. I will hold firm to having it looked prior to purchase. Hopefully we can come to terms and the car is viable. I will update once I have news

Update:

The car passed the pre-purchase inspection with flying colors and is now at the Infiniti dealership having the backup camera fixed and the recall (M HYB Control Module Repro) performed. Just waiting to hear all is ready to pick it up.

Was a blast to drive yesterday just to and from the mechanic :-)

Thanks to all for your comments & support.

Update - so I purchased the car on 5/16 really enjoyed driving the car and dropped it off with the Auto Broker on 6/16 to have the backup camera fixed... I have since spent the past 5 weeks being jerked around first by the Broker for 3 weeks while they tried to fix it with used parts and then by the Infiniti dealer it was finally brought to! It then took the dealer 2+ weeks to pinpoint the issue to be an a/v module that has since been sent back to manufacturer for repairs. I am told it will be another week before the a/v module is returned to be installed. The nav voice guidance prompts weren't working so I am hoping the refurbished module also fixes that. I am sooo done

I have been driving a 2008 BMW 328xi loaner in the meantime but cannot compare to the M Hybrid.

You are correct Mazz. FYG at one point the dealership was advising the issue was with the Master IT unit that cost $5000 - 6000 to replace, that was when the Broker became very quiet until the final tally of $1400- 1600 was advised.

I know it is silly to "miss" a car but this is the nicest one I or anyone in my family has ever owned... I received a pair of those welcome lights that project the Infiniti logo for Father's Day and din't even have the chance to install them :lolling:

I have waited this long so what is another week or so!

This saga just keeps getting better. Last night I must have driven over something sharp on the highway as the rear passenger tire on the BMW loaner was flat this morning. Took it to a local Tread Quarters to have it repaired and was told it cannot be repaired... waiting to hear back from the Auto Broker :tisk:

Final update - I now have my M Hybrid back!

The backup camera works as designed, the navigation prompts work and both I-keys have been programmed. Total bill from Infiniti was $1,452 paid by the auto broker = all is well and I am loving this fine automobile :)
