I'm thinking about building a KA-T instead of an SR20DET, mostly because i like torque and it seems more price affective and easier to source parts for. I'm only looking for around 250-300hp.

Let's see, DOHC $200, CP Pistions $499, H-Bream Rods $359, Cams $299,Stainless Valves $139,Lightened Flywheel $259,Stainless turbo manifold $199,Head Gasket $85,clutch 6 puck $319.00,ARP Stud $109,FMIC $250,

Total: $2717

Anything i'm missing besides the turbo i'm not sure what the turbo would run?

Fuel pump, fuel injectors, intercooler and intercooler piping, blow off valve, possibly a wastegate, downpipe, oil feed and return lines, and some form of engine management. You need a lot more stuff, I'd keep researching.

Well i just want to get the basic motor together, then i'll do a bigger turbo and FMIC ect. I just want to know the basic needs to get the turbo motor running in the car is.

So you want to go non-intercooled? I'd suggest just doing it right the first time.

No i'm just thinking of initial running engine parts, ok a cheap FMIC is like $200 bucks, the point in, i like driving my 240 and i don't want to have to wait a million months to afford big ticket items like a huge turbo and big BOV and wastegate ect.

You don't need half of whats on you initial list for the power you want btw. Like I said, I'd do some research for awhile. I have my whole setup pretty much planned out, just haven't had the money for awhile lol

I don't mind spending the extra on new pistions ect so if i ever want to turn up the boost i can, and that way i can be sure the bottom end is rock solid.

I'd say buy a low mile engine. turbo it with quality parts. Run low boost, until you can have your current one rebuilt with forged internals.... What I did

The current one is teh-suck so i'm just gonna start over with a complete rebuildit'll actualyl be the other way, build a KA with forged internals and crank and cams, ect then add the turbo later on.

There you go. Build the enigne and keep it NA. allow it to break in well. Then go have fun with boost

Any opinions on what a good turbo for this motor would be?

Lol, that's just asking to start a debate. I just happened to find a t25 for cheap.....I'll see how I like it in a couple more months.

Debate aside what's a good budget minded beginner turbo just to make me an honest man.

T25 on the ka is like being supercharged. My friend kills me in 1st gear. 2nd gear I catch him and 3rd gear is bye-bye

oh and i know i don't have to replace the stock internals, but i want this engine to last a long time and i like to drive hard so i figure if i build it up right the first time around i wont have to do it again.

It will last long if you take care of it and run a proper afr through the powerband. The t25 is really a great turbo to start with. Power right off the start, lol. You can always upgrade later on, but finding used sr T25s is pretty easy....for some. I found one with some shaft play, so I may need to keep looking. As of now, all i need to do is make my own ic piping, and pull the engine to replace headgasket while i replace the t/o bearing and lots of other fun things. I'M ALMOST THERE!!! But i may need to wait till spring break.

Interesting, i'm still thinking i'll do cams/pistons/valves/rods and a balenced crankshaft just for bulletproofness sake.

Credit card and a well paying job my friend, i suppose i could just get a T25 off ebay and strap it to me sohc! lol But seriously, should i get a new crank if i want to balence it?

Edit, do you think i'd be better off getting a dohc and swapping it in stock and putting a manifold and T25 and fmic, ect. And then rebuildig it with forged internals later?
