I drove my car to the gas station. Filled the car up went to try and start the car and nothing. No slow crank or loud clicks Nothing. So i asked this girls if i could use her car to try and jump start mine. She said ok. I sat with her in her car for about five minutes just talking while the jumper cables where connected. Went over to start my car jumper cables still connected and still nothing. Only two things i can think of. My car was converted to 5spd. so maybe that wire you need to jump to trick the car into thinking it's in park got disconnected or my starter is completly dead. I finally pop started it and drove home. Had my little bro turn the key while i checked voltages on the battery and it was steady 12.5v, when he turned the key still 12.5v. Also i hear a tiny click def. not from the started sounds like a relay. Would the relay click if the jumper wire got disconnected. Also bought the car after it was converted so i have no idea where this wire is. So is my starter dead or what?

Yeah, sounds like a wireing issue. I would say the starter is fine. I wish I could tell you what to look for but I am no wiring expert.

im going out there right now and see if i can jump my starter directly from the battery. Also some background info. For the past 3 weeks my car does this wierd thing. It goes through a cycle. Car starts normally.. Then progressivly slower cranking each time i try and start the car. Until it will crank really slow and i have to pop start it. Then the next time i go to start it, it will be fine crank fast and start the cycle again. It did this about 3 times so i figured my battery was going. But now my battery is fine voltage wise. So knowing this could i be my starter going this whole time? Or is this totally unrelated to my current problem?

Yeah, the starter is starting to go. You'll see it get progressively worse over time, until you replace it.

I am experiencing the same problem on my 95 S14.

Well I had to work last Saturday and when I got in my car to leave the house the car fired up perfectly. I stopped by the local grocery store to get breakfast and when I came out and tried to start the car....NOTHING. All you can hear is the ignition relays in the kickpanel and under the hood click. So after sitting there for about 30 min going over relays, wiring, and doing voltage and ohm checks I say to myself it can't be the starter can it??? It has worked perfectly the last 7 years I have owned this car. Well I grab the tire iron out of the trunk and slide underneath my car (which ain't easy since it's lowered like 2 inches on coilovers) and wacked the starter a few times. Get back in it and it fired right up. I bought a new starter but I haven't had time to put it in yet (doing it tomorrow) so all this weak the starter has gotten progressively weaker everytime I start it.

Then last night it did the same thing again and the solenoid refused to engage and left me hangin again ( in the same damn Albertsons parking lot at that. Anyway yea it sounds like we need new starters.

I have researched thru friends who work at dealers and discovered that even Nissan OEM starters are rebuilds so your best bet would be NAPA or the like. $85 after core turn in at NAPA vs over $200 at the dealer for the same thing. You shoose!

It seems like 240's have weak starters or something. Between 3 240's owned by me and my friends including mine that just went i think we went through 5 starters in 1.5 years.

But were they Nissan starters or that crap from some parts store?

Hopefully it is the starter for you guys. I'm having the same problem. Battery's good, grounds are good, so I replaced the starter and it's still acting up. Gotta go check the relay tomorrow. Should've done that before I got the starter....urrgggghhh.....
