hey guys! shortly after my disappointment with that black 240sx turning out to be a automatic i stumbled upon a white 240sx with only 65k mi on the engine, and 100k on the chasis! i'm closing the deal right now, but am a bit worried about the rust under the spoiler. From the picture, do you think it looks bad?

the rust is only on the right side bolt, the left side is fine. i don't see rust from the interior side of the hatch, so i'm guessing it hasn't eaten through the hatch yet.

not sure how to remove the spoiler to be certain... eventually i plan to have the spoiler removed and the bolt holes covered. i had ran a search on rust and someone referred to the spoiler as a "rust incubator," which can't be a good sign...

if all goes well I'll be joining the ranks of 240sx owners by the weekend! after a month of daily searching!

to me.. any rust is bad... cuz once it gets started you will need to cut the whole thing out... but I could be wrong...

thanks for the replies on how to fix the problem guys. i actually found that much from using the Search feature. i guess what i was really getting at was opinions on how bad the rust damage is from the picture from people that have had problems with rust.

in any event, if it doesn't prove too costly i plan to take it to a body shop to have them fix everything properly... i'm not very good with fixing things and would probably botch the whole thing... yikes...

platinum thanks for your response! so you fixed the problem for your spoiler and will be going back to do some work on the rust elsewhere on the car? or did the problem come back in the same spot?

do you by any chance have any photos of the result of the repair? i'd be interested in seeing how well it blends in with the rest of the body.

thank you so much for your reply!

can anyone confirm that the job should go for roughly $150? i was anticipating it being in the $200's from past posts I had seen.

thanks for posting the pic platinum!

yeah, i noticed the paint doesn't match too well; more like the rest of the car has aged paint and the hatch has fresh paint.

hmm... i think it does look better with the stock spoiler on it. the rear looks like a coupe (elongated trunk) without the spoiler to make it appear shorter. sigh... but the thought of a rust incubator freaks me out.

btw platinum, any chance you're in California? if so, since they did a good job with your hatch maybe I could go to the same place (assuming i can close the deal).

you're right, it does look nice. but that's not fair because you threw in those sweet Kouki tail lights. :D

i think it had more to do with the angle of your pic. from a head on view of the rear, the spoiler helps, but from a 3/4 angle the spoiler-less rear looks fine.

When i get my spoiler removed i think i'm gonna go ahead and shave the 3rd brake light, wiper, and antenna.
