We have an 01' I30t Auto which I believe has an LSD. About a month ago when backing the car out of the driveway, when i popped it into drive, the driver side axle popped out of the transmission. I think the ring at the end of the shaft was the problem, but I couldn't get the axle nut off, I broke 2 1/2" ratchets and 1 breaker bar, so did my mechanic. My mechanic took the car to a truck repair shop where they easily took off the nut with a 1" impact gun!

Anyway here is the question, I was under the car recently and this just didn't look right to me. It looks like the axle needs to be farther in the transmission so that the smaller race would be rotating in the seal. What do you think?

Ok then. Thanks... Now to deal with the other main issue...the really horrible transmission It thinks it is a CVT between gear shifts, sometimes makes a honking noise in between shifts. In neutral if the throttle is at a certain range between 1.5k-2.1k rpm the revs will just oscillate up and down progressively getting quicker with the slightest amount of more throttle...then going away after that range. I believe this causes the transmission to randomly shift down a gear for no reason while cruising at certain speeds...horribly annoying..

I will have to deal with the other load of problems such as bad front window regulators, horrible rattling rear bose deck, burnt out dash lights, seat memory not functioning and who knows???

Wow, sounds like you've got quite a job ahead of you. Here is a link to the FSM for your vehicle, you're certainly going to need it. http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/i30/2001/

The t's did come with a lsd transmission, so I would recommend looking for an equal replacement. I purchased one through http://www.lkqcorp.com with about 65k miles on it and a six month warranty, for a good price. It's still going strong after a year and a half.

A good search site for used parts is http://www.car-parts.com.

Thanks for the FSM link. I forgot to mention another problem..When it is very cold, the tachometer is very very slow to catch up to where the rpm actually is...until it is warmed up...such weird problems...
