The dealer mechanic finally found out that the transmission control module is bad and needed to be changed. They quote me 860 bucks to change it. My question is can i change it myself without doing anything to the computer? They told me that the transmission control module will needed to be reprogrammed, is that true or i can just change the module and go down the road? THanks.

you should be able to get a new ATU (Automatic Transmission Control Unit) and go on your way. 860 sounds like a rip for taking apart the passenger kick panel and removing the ECU and ATU.

ditto. they want your business and it shows. does not need to be reprogrammed nor can it be by any dealer tech on your car. just buy it and replace(if it was diag. properly).
