I have a 95 Max SE 5 spd and my y pipe is bad. This would be a good time to upgrade to performance replacement. Does anybody know if the stock y pipe contain mini cats? I ask this because of emissions laws and the stock looks like they have mini cats on them. If they are resinators, the upgrade is cool. If not I will have to replace the the pipe with an oem part. Also I will be replacing the main cat( if there are mini cats) and later the b-pipe and muffler with performance parts.

PS Some recommondations on manufactures would be helpful

Thanks

Yes, your precats are part of the y-pipe. The only replacement y-pipe (that I know of) that still has the pre-cats will be an OEM replacement.

You should still be able to get some additional HP from a high flow cat and a good 2 1/2" cat back and muffler.

Props to you for keeping things within your local laws.

this is kind of an old thread but just to let you know, here in georgia if you replace the y-pipe with an aftermarket one (brand of choice) with no precats, it will still pass emissons as long as you have the main cat.

hope this is helpful because the y-pipe is one of the best "bang for the buck" upgrades on your maxiam.

Manufacturers: Stillen, Custom Enterprise, Budget(LSS), Warpspeed, and Cattman are good brands

Thanks for the info. Yours is a 97 and in Chicago 96 and up cars are tested via the obd II dianostic port. My 95 will have to go on the rollers for testing. The aftermarket y pipe is cheaper that oem and I need it soon. Keep you posted.

The ypipe and hi flo cat I bought from warpspeed is 49 state legal. Won't pass in Ca. but is okay everywhere else!
