Does the SOHC engine rely on oilpressure to maintain tension on the timing chain

oops, my bad; when i took it apart, there was oil in it; so i guess that little spring is keeping the guide against the chain

so i guess just the hydraulic valve lifters & bearings are relyin' the oil pump's pressure

keep the oil changes in check so they won't "get stuck"

well I can't say for sure but i've been in there and I know it does feel like a spring is in there by itself.

If the tensioners are anything like the DOHC ones then easy way to tell if pressure driven is check for small port holes on backside of the tensioner if you see them then you know . Just compress the guide side of the tensioner and watch the oil squirt point away from face when you do this .
