Being in the market for a Pop Charger-Z tube combo, which I am finally ordering on Monday if time is on my side, observing the beautiful gas prices we have now (not a fan of the oil traders right now, or for the past couple years), I was wondering if it actually does give you better MPGs. I've heard some people say bolt-on intakes don't give you better MPGs, some cases make it worse, and I've also heard the opposite. Theoretically it makes sense to me that it would get you the better MPGs. Obviously this is not the reason I'm purchasing it since I'm asking the night before without much research into it, but I was just curious if anyone who has this on their car, if they have noticed an increase in MPGs.
I tested out my G's (06 coupe AT) range on my trek to my parent's last week, which is a 7 hour drive = 445 miles one way. On the way up, I had some fun reaching speeds of 110 held out for a few miles a couple times (speed limit 55, didn't want to push my luck to far), playing with a guy and his Vette ranging from 85-100 on the freeway for approx 15 miles, and aggressive acceleration. Other than that it was 80ish on the freeway (275 miles), 65 on the highway (170 miles). Got 50 miles away (last gas station before my destination) and I was at the tick below 1/4 tank according to the oh so trusty gauge (the trip itself was on approx 19 gallons). On the way back, I resisted the urge (which was really hard) and did 63 highway, 75 freeway with "normal acceleration" and was able to drive to work the next morning (approx 10 miles, city) and then go fill up. Cranking out the numbers, I got 26 MPG (range was about 460 miles) on the way back + going to work, which I think is pretty darn good for a car in this class. haha So in telling this story, will there be a noticeable increase in my MPGs over a full tank (not on a trip, but in general)?
