Did you ever experience any problems/strange things when you used 87 octane gas? I read somewhere that people heard weird noises when using this. Any experiences are appreciated. Thanks!

You can run it on 87, but you'll lose power and gas mileage.

I recently accidentally put a tank of 89 in my I30. Accelaration was sluggish and I could instantly feel the lack of power. Check engine light came on indicating some sort of emission code.

I switched to 92 with half tank of 89 left - what an improvement. Immediately engine ran smoothly, accelarated quicker.

I would try not to run mine with anything less than 92. Hope this is useful.

The manual recommends 91+ so even if you can't find 92 you should be fine with a 91 octane premium. I usually use 93 or if there's a Sunoco station around 94.

The higher the octane the better your gas mileage will be

For one thing, you won't burn a hole in your pistonfor "pre-detonation" (pinging)

I remember in 1976 I had a Chevrolet Malbu and I cut the catalyticconverter off of it because of the pinging. It ran great on leadedpremium for a while........but the lead caught up with the long gapin the plugs and they fouled out.

You can always retard the timing if you know how on a Maxima?
