does the gas tanks go bad?

i was wondering if any of you had any problems with trash in the tank.i have an 89 240sx,when the tank gets to near empty or when the light comes on.the engine starts to hesitate.i have a new fuel filter but i dont want to put it on unless i need to drop the tank and flush it out.if anybody has done this let me know the procedure.

another? could water in the tank cause this.it runs fine when i fill the tank up

Um... the hesitation is the engine STARVED for gas!! lol at what level does this start to happen? when the needle gets to the big E?

If you've had some gas in it for a long time it will rust up the tank really bad. If you take the gas tank down and sand the inside you should be fine.

yeah bro, youre probably just running out of gas....lol
