Does NYC have emissions and visual inspection

hey im 16 and have been saving for a 240sx ever since i found out about the SR20DET. but what worries me is the fact that the SR20 doesn't pass emission(which could be somewhat possible), but also won't pass visual inspection. but i'm not sure if NYC has these. i live in Staten Island by the way. does anyone know of NYC has these tests? and if so how what should i do?

no visual inspection, but its still not legal... make sure the person who is testing that knows it before you bring the car there...they will be straight with you if you are straight with them....

so only emissions testing then? what so i should tell the person ahead of time that the motor is illegal? confused by that

just go to some gettho shop...let them do their thing, and when u fail ask them hook u up...alot of them usually do.

why not just come upstate a bit? i live 40 min. north of albany and i have never had to get an emisions test. just find a shop in a less populated area and all they do is check light, brakes, if it has an exhaust, horn, and make sure the tires aren't falling off.

because the SR20 was not ever in the U.S. thus not having any emissions equipment on it, i think that is right.
