I see a lot of people put NGK spark plug wires, NGK plugs, 300zx fuel filters and K&N air filters on their stock KA engines. I was wondering if all these things actually make a noticeable difference on performance, or are they just fancy accessories.

They will make a small improvement. Now how much of that depends on when was the last time you did a tune up on your car. If it's been close to never, then you'll feel a significant difference. If you've had a recent tune up, then you won't notice anything.

Well, The KA and most Nissan engines hate every other brand of plug.

The wires will only do good if you're OEM wires have gone bad. Test their resistance with a volt meter.

The air filter... Just get an ebay short ram if you must have an intake on your KA24DE.

Then the 300zx fuel filter is more along for people who are going boosted.

More un-educated bandwagon gossip.

I know that "Nissan" says to use NGK but it makes no difference. Unless you are boosting you can use any major brand Platinum plug.

My S14 is a daily driver so I don't need fancy schmancy plugs, I have 205k miles on my (except for cams) internally stock KA and I have been running Bosch single platinum plugs for 8 years with no problems what so ever. No hesitation, no misfire, no fouling. I just pulled my plugs to check them and they look just like they did when I put them in a year ago.

dude the stock 240sx fuel filter(or at least mine) is a plastic top unit. wheter you boost it or not if you are tracking the car, that thing could crack.the filter itself wont make a difference performance wise but it is safer to use if the car is being tracked.

How would it crack?? It sits in a retainer that keeps it from moving.

I agree with the other things you said, but the real reason why people started using Z32 fuel filters was due to them being cheaper than the one for the KA.

Being bigger just happened to be a plus.

But as you said, a difference won't be noticed unless the car has any of the listed parts working less than ideal.
