Hey guys, im buying a 240 from cali possibly, and its a 95 with a 2001 s15 sr20det engine swap, and i did a private inspection through ebay (because im in hawaii) and the inspection showed that the odometer has been tampered with. I'm just wondering if that is from engine swaps or if its totally unrelated. Thanks for your help

There's a lot of things that could be in play in this situation.

1) The owner could've swapped clusters to reflect the mileage of the engine or for ascetic reasons. (Pretty common)

2) The owner changed the original odometer to reflect the mileage of the motor. (Never seen it but it makes sense)

3) The odometer didn't work for a while so the mileage is wrong. (It happens)

4) The inspector could be wrong.

It all depends though, why does the mileage matter to you? Do you plan on replacing parts that deteriorate over time (Bushings, seal, etc) or would you rather have a lower miles car? Personally the mileage wouldn't matter to me.

thanks for your help so an engine swap does not affect the odometer correct?
