Hello Forum Members. This is my first post here, so Hello! I don't have a Nissan anymore, but I had 510 when I was in my early twenties. Do I ever miss that car...

I would like to solicit your expertise in Japanese brake master cylinders. I am rebuilding a 1973 Triumph GT6 MkIII for my wife. Master cylinders are not available anymore. Some previous owner installed a Nabco master (photos attached) with a remote reservoir, which I know were used on many Datsun and Nissan products. I think it was a good move, but I received the car in February and although the brakes were fine before the journey from Dallas - it arrived in Canada in severe weather conditions (-30 F). The change in weather killed the brake seals in the car and brake fluid was everywhere.

It looks like an excellent MC and I would like to keep it, but I can't rebuild it until I identify it in order to purchase new parts. It is indicated NABCO, 7/8 (bore size for sure) and has all the inlets and outlets on the same side, same plane.

Please take a look and see if you can tell which car it was OEM equipment on. Any help you may provide will be a huge help. Feel free to offer any other advice in regards to rebuilding this master cylinder as you see fit.

Many thanks in advance...

Welcome to NICO!
Greg (AZHitman) might be able to tell you what kind it is (if its from a Datsun), but if not, I would think you should be able to find some other NABCO master to just replace it with. Good luck!

Thanks PapaSmurf! I am hoping to get away with an MC rebuild. So one thing that would be helpul if I cannot ID the unit is to know how many cylinder rebuild kits apply to the 7/8 cylinder.

Definitely not a Datsun unit. I suspect a rebuild kit for any Nabco unit with that bore size will work fine. 7/8" was pretty common. I'd start looking at early Z cars and pickups from the mid 70s.

Dave - The 240sx (1995-1998) used a 7/8" master cylinder.

I've just spent some time searching for rebuild kits, and frankly, unless you want to retain the remote reservoir setup, I'd recommend just getting a rebuilt master cylinder for a 240sx.

Clearly, the previous owner installed something incorrect for the car, so originality won't be a concern.

Definitely not a Datsun / Nissan application though.
