There are two ground wires that have to be spliced in exactly like the diagram says. Even though they are hooked to the same wire going to the ecu, they need to be spliced in seperate spots along the wire.
If the ecu is bad, the car will usually not start at all. Most problems are with the wiring or MAF or both. If the MAF is bad the car will not rev past 2500 because the ecu goes into limp home mode since it has no incoming air signal.
