I posted earlier about a supercharger for an 03 m45. So now I am going to ask if anyone has gone bi-turbo or turbo? If not, why not? These are heavy cars and need a little bit more pep. I would like to get a forced enduction system if possible and if not, I really don't want to make this car not pass smog but I will have to bore, cam, port and pollish, get beefier lifters and springs. I really don't want to go through all of that for 50 plus horses. Although, I could find a nice garage and spend around 10 to 15 to get a single induction kit made for it and have a one of a kind??? Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure someone would be willing to make you a custom turbo kit.If you have the money I don't see why not.I heard the Nissan Titan headers will fit our cars with a few mods. That could be a good starting point for the turbo mount.Of course the shop you pick would need to be able to tune your car....good luck with that. UpRev seems to be the only shop that I heard of that can do it....but still no results from anyone yet.Good luck on your quest if decide to do it!

Remember, this is a rare luxury sedan. Parts are limited for this car or flat out not available.. You will need to spend some serious money for after market parts for this car all courtesy of Japan. With less than 6000-7000 produced in 2003 to 2004 in the US...... Parts are not available. You will be lucky to find a decent set of springs for this car. This is the wrong car to buy if your plans are to do some "serious" mods. I knew this when I bought it and I was a serious mod guy. Just enjoy it for what it is or go broke buying parts from Japan that probably wont fit worth a damn!

Oh.....Forcing air into these sensitive engines/intakes is not recommended, but keep us posted on your ambitions.

If you're that committed to getting a FI system on your M, I'm sure there's a shop in CA that will be more then happy to build you a custom system, it's not that difficult for an experienced builder. I can tell you most people on this site, and most M owners for that matter, are not buying this car to be a race car, but simply a luxury car that performs well at the same time. That's probably why you don't see people jumping up and saying they've done a ton of research about FI systems and any serious mods. Of course there are owners who have done some nice things to their Ms, but few and far between.

Good luck on your FI project and I'm sure everyone on this board, including myself is looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

If you want to mod the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks out of a 4 door sedan maybe you should look for a clean late 90's Chev Impalla SS. There's ALL kinds of things you can do to those!

There's nothing wrong with what the man wants to do with this ("HIS") car. It not all that special of a vehicle really. Your making out more than it's worth.

An STS turbo kit or a bottle of NO2 will give the M45 a kick in the a** for sure! These engines love the cold weather.....so it would love NO2 the best. Options are limitless if your pockets are too!

Sensitive engines and sensitive intakes??? where do you guys come up with this???

This v-8 is almost as robust as anything out there stock.

The pistons are Hyperuetectic cast which is purdy darn strong and the skirts are coated which reduces friction. The crankshaft is cast but nitrided and micropolished. Nitriding is a surface hardening that increases strength at the rods and mains and the micropolish is to reduce overall friction at the bearings. Oh yeah, 6 bolt mains help also.

These engines are suited to make 600hp on stock components all day long!!!

Yes, ... but ... T3 in Atlanta has seen a number of VK engines that were damaged by Nitrous Oxide systems.

I agree that the OP can do whatever he wants with his car, for sure! I am just not sure that the results will be satisfying - without spending a lot of money! It could get expensive ...

Better to do modifications on cars where parts are cheaper, I'd say! So, I am with NightWatch on this one!

That's cool! Seriously it's nice to hear about some carnage from mods.

Nitrious on these engines are a different animal. Gone are the days of just adding a microswitch and attatching a fuel line and hooking up the bottle. These engines require ignition timing specific for nitrous and correct nitrous jetting and dyno time to tune the system.

Since these engines don't have the capability for users to retard the timing at home, there tends to be alot of boat anchors out there because of it.

Also most don't realize to use a colder plug to reduce detonation, same thing happens and the engine goes pop.

Platinum tipped plugs are also known to run hot and cause the dreaded detonation.

Lastly you've got the fuel cut type rev limiter which will cause a lean condition in the engine and poof - the engine lets out the ghost! If you are wondering how can this happen...well the transmission is tuned to have the smoothest shifts under stock power, add more power and the engine accellerates at a faster rate and the stock shift points happen too slow allowing the engine to hit the rev limit - cutting fuel - popping engines.

Boost is mush softer on the engine because it virtually eliminates the tensile stresses on the rods buy cushioning the piston on the exhaust stroke.

Under boost you have to have ECU tunability, which we haven't had - till now. My ecu is being worked on as we speak and will be ready in the next few days - hopefully :crossing fingers:

And I forgot to add that the drive by wire system doesn't actually give you wide open throttle when you mash the gas pedal....I know...stupid huh? another idea by nissan engineers to add torque management and give a perception of a horsepower surge rather then letting the engine breathe fully. close the throttle with nitrous and that causes problems also.

Oh yeah. You can do alot with them. Race, Autocross, streetmachine. They can do it all. See my sig and thats a 4600lb car with a full stereo in the trunk. But I can see a SC on a M. ITS the tuning that we need then I can see parts made. You cant just throw a power adder on modern engines anymore without tuning even if you got the parts from Japan the car has to be tuned for. Thats why Ive read of intakes added to the M hurts performance. The engine is getting more air and its dumping fuel but the timing has to adjusted for that. If someone knows a tuner please push them to get into the PCM so we can have some fun. I saw a pic that someone posted of a twin turbo M and it only put down 390hp. That is ridiculous!!! Something is not right with that ride but the owner is not on here to ask questions.I agree with Ken that the stock engine can handle hp but not 600hp maybe 500hp max. The six bolt main does help tho so maybe so but you would then need vavle springs to handle that. HP is always in the valvetrain and heads. People always overlook that part of the engine. Thats why I think the Twin only made 390 hp. The heads where overlooked.

NOS problem on an Infiniti VH45 engine (that was better built in many ways than our current-gen VK45): zerothread/278868

Outcome is not pretty!

I remember many Chevy guys having trouble with this issue when they went to the larger throttle bodies on the LS2 engines. For some reason, the change would not allow the TB to open up fully. You should have seen the extent some of the electrical guys went through to try and get this to work properly. I only remember they were onto a close fix, but I got out of the performance scene before they were through trying to create a fix.If I'm not mistaken, there was no fix for this by software changes. It was all in the hardware electronic sensors.

I read that thread, and the original from the guy who did it.....the doushe didn't even have a jet in the nozzle!!! With it being a dry kit I'm surprised it didn't blow the engine! Can you say lean burn 5 times fast?

BTW it only blew the intake and gaskets and is known as a backfire in the intake. Not uncommon in any vehicle running nitrous and is nothing specific to the VH. The engine was okay and the new owner has turbocharged that engine with great success - actually he's here in phoenix.

If anyone wants a turbo, I can build you a kit out of my garage for $less than you think$ but you'd have to have your ecu tuned on a dyno to the tune of $800 which is also local and done by a professional - not me. This would get you to the 400rwhp range and reliable including the Valve body upgrade for transmission longevity. You could do the kit cheaper if you did all the work, but I charge $25 labor out of my garage - gotta pay for my own time

So if anyone is serious and local, drop me a line and we can go over the specifics.

this applies to any VK or VH powered vehicle Any year M, Q, or whatever! Hell, any nissan really.

I can edit that post if it looks like I'm advertising - I'm not and I'm not a business, just a guy that mods cars out of his garage

Build some damn headers first! Maybe design one of them with a reinforced turbo mount while your at it!
