$2600, 1000+hp brakes

anyone thought about getting them, or have them? If you can get the right slicks/street tires and get everything dialed in, well, thats almost better than accelerating

The guy before me put Brembo rotors on my S13 and I don't have any complaints with them. If you're looking to spend huge amounts of cash to do a brake upgrade, look into Porsche ceramic rotors and the accompanying calipers / pads.

Isn't something like the Brembo "big brake kit" overkill for 99% of 240sx owners? The 300ZX brakes w/ MC are supposed to be pretty beefy. They were good enough to stop a 300 hp car that was almost 700lbs heavier than our cars.

Hell, what do I know. Maybe there's no such thing as too much when it comes to brakes. :)

That is exactly what I am talking about, a Big Brake kit, AKA Gran Turismo Kit

Hmmm...according to the Brembo website, it doesn't even look like the Gran Turismo is available for the 240SX.

I'm probably just going to get 4 new Brembo rotors (not crossdrilled or slotted), some decent pads, stainless lines and some high quality fluid.

The 300ZX upgrade (as long as you get the MC too) supposedly kicks major ***. Going from a single piston to a four piston caliper IS going to make a big difference. The rear swap is a little problematic because of the e-brake. Projectsilvia.com is working on a kit for the e-brake, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Or for an intermediate solution go get a Q45 brake it, should fit just fine (double check tho as I am shooting off the cuff here).

Heaver more powerful car, not as hardcore brakes as the Z's, but good enough to haul a 4000 lbs Q45 down to 0 from 60 in 129 feet.

Fred...:)

I have recommened that people take that path in the past, especially when there are no 300zx brakes in the junkyards. Some member of NICO has Q45 brakes in the front I think there were 91-93 brakes, they were with the car when he bought it. He said he would put the rears on later. Fred, WHen did the size of the brakes change?

I am not looking for brakes or anything, just wanting to get some perspective from someone who has these beasts.

I wonder if the stock 240SX MC can handle the Q brakes. I know the front Z brakes are a bit too much for the MC on the 240SX. You'd probably still have to redrill the rotors to 4-lug for an S13. Redrilling rotors makes me nervous...it just seems wrong.

The 1G Q brakes would be the lower rung, but definately higher than the stockers

You can always try redrilling, and if it doesn't work well, then you can adjust your budget :D

I don't know about the MC. What other options do you have to upgrade. Can you just take one from a Q45 or 300zx or etc. and bolt it on there?

The 300ZX MC bolts on to the S13 with some minor modifications to the cylinder. I believe the S14 also needs some hard lines bent.

Here's an awesome guide to the swap:

that mc upgrade looks like a pain to me. But that writeup is great. Now if someone would do a writeup that good for the 5-lug.
