My '07 G coupe makes some valve chatter at moderate to heavy throttle between the 1-2 shift. I run ONLY 93 to 94 octane fuel, can't get any better out of the pump in western PA. I asked the dealership if this was normal. They checked it out, and said everything was in spec and not to worry about it. Not much of an answer, but at least I'm not alone in this. The hotter it is outside, the worse it gets. I am considering a throttle body bypass for the coolant system....hope it helps

Don't assume that the octane numbers posted by marketing when the pump was brand new are real with each and every load of fuel.

Notice pump octane is a average of 2 different tests and the R [Research number costs about 1/3 of the M [motor test] to produce:

So refiners tend to blend for a high R and a low M number saving production costs and MILLIONS PER DAY is wasted M octane than only 10% of engines demand...................work great for 90% of premium buyers.

Even ethanol blends high R low M vs the old MTBE which was higher in M componets.

Over the past year and half US Motor Octane has declined 2-3 points while the pump numbers stayed the same.

Try different refiners to see which day was best.

no problems here. We use only name brand prem. from stations with a lot of turn over.

Name brand premium means little since the refineries usually feed all stations in a region via the same pipeline....................now ethanol or not or the few drops of special marketing sauce [additives] added at tank farm do count ...................sometimes.

Magically 1 drop of secret sauce makes 10,000 gallons of generic fungible premium pipeline gasoline become Shell or Chevron.

If you go to tank farm you will see the brand switches and how they work...........the big pipes for fungible and the tiny tiny pipes for sauces.

I also have an 07 coupe, and I do notice a noise making a first-second gear shift. I am not familiar with what valve chatter sounds like, but to me it sounds like a soft ping sound. I'll have to check, but I think I also get it shifting into other gears. I just thought my noise was normal since I haven't driven a newer manual vehicle before.
