Due to family issues, we have to move an extra car onto our property for storage.

We currently have a 2 car garage already in filled up so our thought it to purchase and install a car lift to give us a 3rd parking spot.

So my question is, does anyone own a personal lift and did you install it yourself and what are your general opinions.

All input is appreciated!

(MODS feel free to move didn't know where to put this)

Greg and Becky have one in their garage.

How much overhead clearance do you have?

I did not know that. I'll have to ask them about their experience.

I went out to measure and if I place the lift correctly, so that the roof bulge is between my rafters, I have about 116 inches.

My civic is about 54 inches tall. The accord is about 58 so I'm right on the boarder.

I could cut out another 2 inches from the rafters and then reinforce them but really that's a last resort.

You have to figure in for the height of the lift legs too (assuming you're getting the drive-on model). If you get the lift-by-unibody model, you have to account for the suspension unloading.

Sounds like you need more height man.

Or keep 3 dead hookers in your trunk to load the suspension down and keep the car lower.

^ This.

Talk to Greg. He did a great job putting in a lift with the limited space he has. Turned out perfect.

Lol, I'm not into dead chicks but advice heeded. Looking to rent space from a neighbor now.

The only two we can stack are the Z on the bottom and the Roadster on the top. It works out well because neither of those get driven in the Summer. However, we pulled the motor out of the Roadster earlier in the Summer and had to ratchet her down in order to get them both to fit. (No engine, she rides a lot higher). That was a b****. Other concerns are clearance issues with the light, if it is mounted above where the lift will be -and- the height of the tracks - and- the gap in between locking points on the lift. My suggestion would be to see if you could find someone you could trust and rent their extra garage space. It's great to have but there are limitations. Measure 4 billion times and then have someone check your Math. Like I said, we have 14 (15? hell, i don't remember) cars and we can only stack two.
