does anybody know how many volts injectors take. I'm asking this because I am going to clean my injectors and I want the injectors to open up. I know that they won't pulse, but as long as they stay open.

Interestingly enough, they do not open via voltage, but rather by being grounded. They receive a constant 12v from the ecu, but the ecu controls a ground that cuts on and off to them, at least thats my understanding.

right but they are still being provided a certain voltage to open them. electricity flows from negative to positive anyway, but they still probably take a certain amperage/voltage to open.

Actually, injectors always have a constant 12 volt charge through the fuse box. The ECU provides the ground in order to open the injectors.

right but the 12 volt charge is of a specific voltage (12) and of a certain amperage. electricity doesn't care if you shut off the ground or the positive lead, it always flows in the same direction (negative to positive) and always has a specific voltage, and is consumed with a specific amperage.

for instances, I could probably but a 12 volt 5 milliamp charge to an injector and it wouldn't move it. there just isn't enough amperage there to open the injector.

Just so Tony (or anybody else for that matter) doesn't get confused by this discussion. You need to use a 12V voltage source connected to the injectors with at least a 1AMP current for high impedance injectors (12Ohm) or 4AMP for low impedance injectors (3Ohm).

Now I'm confused :rolleyes Wouldn't that current heat up the injectors very fast?

very low current.however, I know that you can max out injectors. I wonder if when cars step up to 32 volt and higher electrical systems if you could lessen the amperage, which would less the heat and stress placed on injectors?

if u were to manually keep a injector open even for a quick second you will most likely burn up the the ecu injector driver. i've seen from experience where someone hooked up a momentary switch to the injector harness and fired the ecu but that was on a GM though
