Personally I think it all depends on the care and condition in which the car was kept from it's previous owner. So you may or may not have any problems with either type of models you get...Good Luck Though

i own an 89 and does it have potential...of course any car has potential... most people doubt the 89 because its sohc... but the truth is simply it pulls just as hard as the later models... ive beatin many 240's on freeway and drag with dohc's... but then i also put alot of work into tuning the timing and making shure everything is getting the most... but my 89 is a great car i recommend it to anyone who loves throttle response and good low range torque...but without porper adjustments it is laggy in the long end....

I have an 89 240sx se model, and I love it. I've had a problem with the fuel filter due to it being old and all, but other than that, I can't really complain about it. I even kinda like the stock KA24E. It's got pretty decent power and a fairly good start-off. There's a lot of things I'd like to do to it, But they look good as is. I say go for the 240. It's a great car as long as you take care of it.

I hope the 89 240sx has potential, im buying mine tonight! Just kidding, its got mad potential, skies the limit on mods you can do. If you doubt the SOHC engine, please refer to http://www.realnissan.com they have a few examples of some increased performance KA24E powered cars. Even if you dont like the KA24E, swap X japanese turbo motor in and go to town.

I am a fan of the 2g RX-7 Turbo II's, very nice looking cars and nothing to laugh at... I personally prefer the 89-90 front to the 91-93, but I liek the DOHC motor better. It depends on what you like personally.
