does a turbo quiet down an exhaust?

I put on my new Apexi N1 Duals today and DAMN they're loud! They look real nice and everything, but they're a little bit too loud for me with the NA KA.. I was wondering how much I can expect the turbo to actually quiet down the whole thing once I get the KA-T running.. should I still be hearing that LOUUUUD rumble at WOT?

No, the turbo acts as its own muffler in a way, instead of the direct combustion being pushed out into the exhaust, it must first go through the turbo which quiets it down. Theres a guy running around here w/ a rb20 and you can't even hear his car a WOT, hes got N1.

I have the N1 Dual and it is a rumble but......I dunno I guess I just hang out with people that have much more heavily modded cars and theirs are MUCH louder. Also with a turbo it will depend on what you do with the wastegate (open/dumped) and emissions(cat). The turbo won't suddenly silence it and the guy with the RB20 is quiet because he probably has a cat and an internal wastegate.

the turbo itself will quite down the exhaust note. having/not having a cat isn't going to make a huge difference in sound, and your open wastegate shouldn't make any noise until it opens up. even then there's a difference in the sound of the wastegate dumping, and the actual sound of your exhaust.

my car is pretty damn loud. its kinda hard to tell ir it got quieter tho after turbo since i my wastegate dumps atmosphereically i cant really hear anything else too much, jsut that wastegate scream. hell i can hear my car idle on the street thats a good 50' from my bedroom. at least i can tell when the turbo timer turns it off and if anyone tried to steal it i would hear it as soon as it started

well it probably also doesnt help that I still have a little leak between the stock 'downpipe' and the cat.. I tightened it as much as I could, but I can still hear it down there and I can still see some gas escaping (when it's cold out)... I'm thinking about either putting 2 gaskets in there or maybe some liquid gasket. Anyways the thing is still pretty damn loud.. I plan on havin my wastegate dump to the downpipe at some point, but like you guys said, thats a different sound.

I guess I'll get used to it.

eqaul length manifold + T25 + 3" downpipe + cat + greddy dd + two silencers wrapped in steel wool = quiet as stock
